July 9, 200916 yr Author comment_5441717 Feels like we should keep the top 50 and add another 50 or 75 matches, seem to remember 99 Randy Savage vs Tito Santana (3/16/86 MSG) 1,523 being so clipped that no real sense of it could be had, maybe we could look at the full version and see if deserves to be on the set.
July 14, 200916 yr comment_5441952 I don't know about keeping top 50. Feels like we should have it just be set of stuff that didn't make first set.
August 30, 200916 yr comment_5443530 My suggestion would be to watch/nominate things just like in every other category, and pay no regard to where things were previously ranked. Some things will end up on the set, and some won't.
August 30, 200916 yr comment_5443535 I think we are going to watch every available show like the other categories but give attention to matches that may have ranked high. This isn't any different than including some Tiger Mask - Dynamite Kid matches on NJ because they have historically been given so many props.
July 29, 201213 yr comment_5511478 I don't know about keeping top 50. Feels like we should have it just be set of stuff that didn't make first set. The more I watch, the more I am starting to agree with this viewpoint. Forcing people to rewatch matches from the 1st set feels like an unnecessary chore. I am trying to rewatch the matches and it's a "been there-done that" feeling. I want Devon to hurry up and finish the house show discs so I can check out all of the great "discoveries" he has been posting about.
July 29, 201213 yr comment_5511480 If that's the idea, people should still be able to submit a ballot that combines both sets.
July 29, 201213 yr comment_5511481 There's a couple of problems with that viewpoint. I can see people maybe thinking it was a chore to re-watch all of those matches. However, this is still supposed to be the best matches from the WWF in the 1980s. This includes the very best match from that decade. Personally, I find it hard to believe that anything is going to beat Slaughter-Sheik Bootcamp from MSG on my ballot. It would feel weird and sort of wrong to have, in my opinion, the best match in that decade from the company not on the set. Now that's not to say there could be something out there that's just as good or better but I think it's really a long shot. I'll still keep my eyes open but I doubt it. Also, I don't see all 100 of those matches making this set. As Will has mentioned, I've found some pretty good "discoveries." Some of these "discoveries" are going to out weigh matches ranked lower or in the middle of the first set. I'm fairly confident that unless every match from that first set is just downright phenomenal there's only going to be about 60 or so of those matches that'll possibly make this set. Plus, there are also issues with WWF being the only company with an Errata set. That brings in discussion about left over matches from NJ and AJ. Why isn't there Errata sets from those two companies? There's too many issues to deal with if this is done. I'm confident that a brand new set with great "discoveries" and some good "old" stuff from the original set will be a perfectly acceptable 80s set.
July 29, 201213 yr comment_5511482 I think it should be a total redo with every old match up for discussion.
July 29, 201213 yr comment_5511483 Absolutely should be a redo. A lot of us didn't even participate the first time around and by the time the set comes out, it will have been almost 10 years.
July 29, 201213 yr comment_5511493 If that's the idea, people should still be able to submit a ballot that combines both sets. This is what I was thinking. Maybe remaster the old set and include that 100 separately. For those who didn't participate the first time around, they can pick up the remastered set. Add the 2nd set of matches and rate the total of the two sets. I'll create a separate set of extras for those who want them. To Dylan, the idea wasn't an errata set. It was more like WWF part 2. To Exposer, my point wasn't that the 100 new nominated matches would make the set. It is that we have barely scratched the surface of what is out there and already have 100 new matches. By the time I send you tv, 24/7, more commercial releases and other rarities, AND you go through the 180 discs you haven't reviewed we may have to narrow down from 400+ matches of including the original 100.
July 29, 201213 yr comment_5511503 I know what you mean. I wouldn't mind getting the old set all that much. Like you said though, we've only scratched the surface. I mean we would and will almost definitely have to narrow down from the 100 in the original set. My point is, It's not likely that all of the original 100 are going to make this set anyways. This set is going to have the most nominations ever. There's probably tons of stuff out there that are great "discoveries." I did a tentative count and there's about 55 new matches that are either solid or easy nominations with most of them having more than one person saying it should be on the set. I've firmly nominated five or six from the original set. I really think after going through all of this footage we're likely to have well over 100 new nominations that are solid and easy ones at that. My guess is there will be about 35 to 40 matches from the original set that feel pretty set worthy. Now that might fall right into 150 matches. However, I think it could be more. Dare I say a 175 match set??? Mind you, we're just scratching the surface so we can't make too many assumptions. I think we need to really investigate the original 100. It may feel like a chore but what if some of those matches really don't deserve to be on this set? What if they don't match up well with all of the new finds? Will, I know it's probably simpler to just send out the old set and a new set together but I think all 100 of those original matches need to be discussed before we throw them in with the new stuff. I know the current 100 new nominated matches won't all make the set but we've just started on this road. I mentioned above that we have around 55 matches that more than one person has agreed that they could see inclusion on the set. I know it has to be majority but there's a decent chance most of those get in. I just don't feel completely comfortable passing all those 100 matches through without proper investigating. My tangent is over. That is all.
July 30, 201213 yr comment_5511507 I also think you should redo the entire set. I could see the point in releasing a second set of matches if there was a bunch of newly released footage, but I thought the point of a new WWF set was to correct the problems with the original set. It is a chore to sift through the original set, but the end result will be a much stronger collection of matches, IMO. There are people who like to watch these sets in chronological order and I think most people draw some context from what was on the rest of the disc, so you lose a lot by having matches spread out over two different sets. You might have a bit of Savage/Tito on one set and a bit more on the other. That doesn't strike me as ideal.
July 30, 201213 yr Author comment_5511508 Yeah I think we should do a redo as well. Tons of new folks are going to do this set, and I don't think the people who did it before are going to mind rewatching some matches. I also think this is looking like a 175 set like New Japan
July 30, 201213 yr comment_5511510 Yeah I think we should do a redo as well. Tons of new folks are going to do this set, and I don't think the people who did it before are going to mind rewatching some matches. I also think this is looking like a 175 set like New JapanThat's kind of what I'm getting to here. I think a 175 set would be great because we could get all of the "new" and the best of the "old" in one big set.
July 30, 201213 yr comment_5511511 The old matches must compete with the footage we have now we didn't then to stand on their own. If Rolling Stones can redo their Top 500 albums of all-time after a few years we can easily redo this one.
August 6, 201213 yr comment_5511965 Will your way sounds WAY more complicated. Having two sets, and let people mix and match their ballot between the two sets? I thought most of the point of the new WWF set was so that EVERY set used the same methodology in choosing matches. If we have the power to do an update to a weak set, why not do it? The first set was majorly flawed, and we can easily improve it by doing it over from scratch. This is not replacing guns with walkie talkies. This is taking advantage of new footage and better methods.
