I have no idea why you need such an agressive heel ref in your opener. Blue Panther/Sergio El Hermosa v. Super Astro/Solar Classic match, especially the first fall stuff between Solar and Panther, which is some of the best matwork in wrestling history. Super Astro is always great flying around too, Sergio El Hermosa didn't do a ton but this is a slam dunk pick
September 29, 200916 yr comment_5444668 WWA is some lucha fed out of the Olympic in LA El Mercenario v. Mando Lopez This was basic dry undercard match and then heel ref kicks in and then he starts leaping around ring and then the heel gets fed up with him and makes him take big bump out of ring. Finish is ref giving decision to face after being upset with heel. FUCK!!
March 22, 201213 yr comment_5497688 El Mercenario vs. Mando Lopez I liked this way more than I can realistically justify. I don't know that they needed the overly-aggressive rudo ref stuff, but I'm pretty tolerant of that for the most part, and accepted it on it's own terms. Beyond that, it's a match mostly built around guys throwing hands, and both guys looked really good throwing hands. I also popped big for Mercenario socking the ref at the finish, leading to the DQ. Not sure if that's a valuable lesson about not taking good things for granted or just Mercanario being an idiot, but he socked him really good, and the dude went flying off of it. I'll probably be alone in this, but I'm throwing it up as a solid nomination. Blue Panther/Sergio El Hermosa v. Super Astro/Solar You're going to have to forgive me here, because my DVD gets screwed up about 2/3 of the way through this match, and I have no other copy available, but I've seen this match before, possibly twice, so I'm kinda filling in the blanks with hazy memories. That said, I'm not sure it's such a good idea, because my previous recollections of this match were always that it was really overrated, but watching it this time around, that feels less the case. It's still nowhere near the super classico status I've seen ascribed to it, and I thought Sergio el Hermosa looked outright bad, but whatever bug I had up my butt about this match before doesn't seem to be there anymore, and we're left with an entirely solid match with a world-beating Blue Panther performance. Until we get to the third fall, at least, and while I don't remember that being exceptional, I don't remember it being offensive, either. And really, even if I hated this match, it feels like a hard thing to leave off. It's probably going on the set one way or another. Who am I to get in the way?
July 19, 201213 yr comment_5510598 El Mercurio vs. Mando Lopez (10/17/87) Yeah this was a decent undercard match but the heel ref stuff was a little too overboard for me. No on the nomination. Solar I & Super Astro vs. Blue Panther & Sergio el Hermoso (10/17/87) Damn the Solar/BP work in the 1st fall was so awesome just great mat wrestling. Sergio brought some comedy exotico spots here but wasn't much so he wasn't in a whole lot. Astro was very fun here bringing his aerial game and athleticism which made his exchanges with Sergio much better than if it was someone else. BP was very aggressive in the 3rd fall as he was ripping masks with Astro's almost completely off before submitting him. The 1st fall was fantastic and the rest of the match was fun so I think it's a fairly easy nomination.
