Posted October 14, 200915 yr comment_5445118 Here's my original review: "OK, a match I liked... There's no way of knowing for sure, but this felt like a new kind of lucha. It had an old school build to it, in that there was more emphasis on winning each fall (including working your man over far more than in later lucha), but instead of grounded, leverage-based matwork, they did a lot of awesome fast-paced exchanges. You forget how much of his game Atlantis shelved, or indeed how quick he was... and Emilio was an awesome worker in the 80s. This was the best showcase of 1984 Atlantis I've seen. The kind of match where he reminds me of Lizmark. Given it was a year or less since his debut, credit ought to go to Emilio for being a new school rudo. It would appear that these guys were part of a generation who were shaping a new kind of rhythm in lucha. "
April 17, 201015 yr comment_5449624 I don't think this is from 1984 like Fredo listed it. I appears to be 8/12/88 which is when luchawiki lists Emilio winning the middleweight title from Atlantis in Mexico City. Great match and definite set selection. I loved Emilio's running Fujiwara armbars, and Atlantis's armdrags, and the match had an awesome big match finish. Should finish strongly.
July 15, 201015 yr comment_5453152 NWA Middleweight Title: Atlantis © vs. Emilio Charles Jr. (8/12/88) These two have traded the title a couple of times over the last two months so this is like the rubber match of their series. These two were awesome at this time as their wrestling and counter wrestling was top notch here with having great chemistry with each other. They kicked it up in the third fall of course which they were working like this was an epic match with some great nearfalls leading to a hot stretch run and finish. This is a slam dunk nomination.
