DVD #22

9/21/85

Ishikawa/Okuma vs. Kabuki/Brooks - Barely remember it 24 hours later.

Choshu/Hamaguchi vs. Race/Janetty - Race and Marty made an odd team. Choshu didn't take Marty seriously so it was little surprise when he finished him casually with the lariat.

Jumbo/Tenryu vs. Khan/Yatsu - Best match in awhile but still nothing I'd put on the set. It featured some feisty interactions between Khan and Jumbo and more work on Jumbo's arm. But these teams really weren't in the same tier.

Baba/Tenryu vs. Kamata/Horner - Why?

Choshu/Yatsu/Hamaguchi vs. Kabuki/Brooks/Janetty - More drab stuff with Kabuki as the main guy on his team. Choshu appeared disengaged in these episodes and I can't blame him. Baba's booking brain seemed on hiatus.

Jumbo vs. Race - Let's see. Two legends busting each other open and brawling. A finish built around a nasty brainbuster and a missed headbutt to the floor. Those sound like the elements of a compelling match, don't they? But this was pretty sluggish overall. I liked Race's butts and sharp little knuckle punches. I liked Jumbo using his left arm on lariats to put over his injury. But they showed little urgency in the first 10 minutes and went to the semi-crap finish pretty quickly after the match got interesting. I hope the nominated Jumbo-Harley is better.
