Posted January 11, 201015 yr comment_5447047 This was a perfect way to spend 2 hours on a plane ride up to Portland. It had 5 matches, but only the last 3 were actually from the 1980s. I watched them all anyway, just because I can't get enough pro wrestling. The '76 Jumbo match was alright, and I LOVED the Abby match from '79. The other three matches are all mid-to-strong nominations. 1. Terry and Dory vs. Nick Bockwinkel and Jim Brunzell, 12/9/80 I enjoyed this quite a bit, and would give it a mid-level nomination. Bockwinkel's exchanges with Terry are what make this really tick. Terry stumbling around while Nick just stalks him like a badass made for some great moments. Them working Terry's knees made for some real drama and it really had a nice build. Mid-level nomination. 2. Stan Hansen vs. Terry Funk, 9/11/82 There's really not too much I can say about this one. It's not quite as good as their 1983 match, it's only 11 minutes and it ends in a count out, but jeez it's 11 minutes of dudes punching each other really hard and Hansen kicking Terry with the toe of his boots and throwing chairs at his head. I watched this while flying up to Portland, and some dad across the aisle watched the whole thing over my shoulder, until finally saying "Jesus, this is a little different than John Cena, huh?" and was generally fascinated by two big white guys beating the crap out of each other in front of a bunch of Asian people. STRONG NOMINATION. 3. Stan Hansen and Terry Gordy vs. Terry and Dory Funk, 8/31/83 I'm with Will on this one. I can't NOT nominate a match where Hansen and Terry match up. Those two really bring out seething hatred in each other and just throw bombs. This is real fun and makes a fine mid-level nomination.
