From what I've looked at so far, the big goldmines are Texas (LOTS of Ft. Worth and more) and Memphis including the holy grail Dundee-Mantell scaffold match.

Does he still have his NWA Complete Shows for sale because he has a lot of Sunday shows and syndicated stuff from 86-88.

I'll have to check but I'm not sure if they were there.

 

I still need to go through his JCP and I know there's at least early '80s stuff we need (and someone needs to cross-check his '84-'85 stuff with the Worldwide and TBS Saturday Night sets to see what he has from MACW, TBS Sat. Morning and TBS Sun. night).

Also, FYI, some of the tapes from the smaller list are the same as tapes from the bigger list, but they have different numbers. There's at least a Memphis '85 tape I picked out from both.

With the TX that Vintage is releasing and the Romdam stuff, I dont think we need the 88-90 TX right now. Would the Steve Austin set be an upgrade from John McAdam? We have a Florida 1984 set. The 1985 VQ was ok but his might be an upgrade. I am on board for everything else.

How complete is the '84 Florida set? Does it have the Davis as "Dusty" stuff?

 

I figured I should add any '88-'90 WCCW/USWA TX because it might have KTVT stuff (given the Austin comp being full of nice VQ KTVT stuff).

 

The Austin comp, which John made, is floating around from VHS dubs from John's copy. It's interesting enough (and full of rare enough footage) that upgrading to the best possible copy is probably a good idea if we have the chance since 3 $5 tapes in a bulk won't add much cost at all.

 

Anyone outside of this forum or the Corner that we should see about bringing into this? I've talked to Tabe about it and he may be interested.

 

Should we also post this in Projects & Lists?

I have at least one buddy, maybe two who would be interested outside of this project.

Here is what I have in my Florida, Mid Atlantic and TX collections so far. If we can trim the fat off this list and get only stuff that has rare footage on it then i think it would be worth it. A project this big could be a logistical nightmare so lets split it up with rarities first and foremost (ie Dutch-Dundee) and see how a 1st bulk runs.

Also lemme look at a few of the want list you made up as a few of those look familiar and I may have bought them from McAdam in year's previous. One thing I noticed was the one with Jarrett-Hennig on it...as I recall that match is on one of the RESLO discs.

I don't think it's the Reslo version. He usually notes foreign commentary and his star ratings are less likely if the match is heavily clipped (if he doesn't otherwise note that it's clipped).

 

Also, shawmic (Mike Rogalewski, who's not prolific on trading boards much nowadays but it one of my favorite guys to deal with) would definitely like to participate in the bulk.

TAPE #A1353: GEORGIA WRESTLING FROM 1980 - 1981:

CHIEF JAY STRONGBOW SQUASH- Ernie Ladd attacks Jay after the match, but Strongbow puts him out with his famous sleeper hold. Strongbow tries several times to awaken Ladd, but Ernie is playing possum, and clocks Strongbow with his shoe. Ladd then traps Jay in the ropes, tears Jay's "sacred Indian headdress" to shreds, and crams the feathers into Strongbow's mouth!

JACK BRISCO v MONGOLIAN STOMPER, jip- Stomper pins Jack to win the National title.

TWO RING BATTLE ROYAL, jip- Dibiase and Fuller win & the Freebirds attack Plowboy Frazier.

TONY ATLAS v MONGOLIAN STOMPER- Andre The Giant attacks The Stomper because he has the nerve to bill himself as the "Eighth Wonder of the World". Ooooh, what an issue to fight over.

KEVIN SULLIVAN v STEVE O in THREE different matches for the TV title, all very good.

**No idea how much of this is available or available in decent quality.

 

TAPE #A1480: A TRIBUTE TO DORY FUNK JR:

DORY FUNK JR v GENE KINISKI from February 11, 1969 in Tampa, FL. I'm pretty sure this is the entire match, taken from silent 8mm footage.

**If this is more than the 4 minutes that is available, it’s a must-have for me. I’m wondering if he’s wrong about how much footage is there, however…

 

TAPE #A1509: WRESTLING FROM 1980 - 1985

DUSTY RHODES v MR. PANHANDLE, from Georgia, 1980- truly a classic. Rhodes is doing well until Panhandle throws a wicked forearm...and there's only one guy who can wallop a guy with a forearm like that- Dory Funk Jr! Gordon and the fans go nuts when they realize it's Funk under the mask.

DICK SLATER v KILLER KARL KOX from Knoxville, 1980. About four minutes are shown of a total brawl.

JACK BRISCO v AUSTIN IDOL from an outdoor show in Mobile, Alabama in 1980. Idol scores the upset in a 20 minute match.

DUTCH MANTELL v TROY T. TYLER from Knoxville, 1980. Good match wher Tyler wins the Southeast TV title.

DUTCH MANTELL v DON DIAMOND from Knoxville, 1980. Dutch and The Matador injure Troy T. Tyler before the rematch for the TV title, so Diamond defends the belt in his place.

BRUISER BRODY v TED DIBIASE from Kansas City, 1983. About five minutes are shown of what I would consider a dream match, and we actually get to see the finish!

DYNAMITE KID & BUDDY ROSE v BILLY JACK HAYNES & CURT HENNIG from Portland, 1983. Good match, the heels turn on Buddy Rose afterward.

BUTCH REED v MAGNUM T.A. from Louisiana, 1983. Good match featuring Magnum when he was a rising star.

HIGHLIGHTS of the 1983 tournament from Mid-South's North American title.

BRUISER BRODY v KAMALA from Ft. Worth, 1983. A wild brawl!

This is one of those tapes that I've had in storage forever and shouldn't have. 4 hours, the picture quality is good / fair, very watchable but likely a 3rd generation copy.

 

 

TAPE #A1522: MATCHES FROM 1983 - 1988:

TERRY GORDY v BLACK BART from Oklahoma City, 7/11/87- I remember that when this match aired, some called it the bloodiest match of all time, and no one could beleive it made TV! Bart is a digusting mess here. 3 1/2 ***.

TED DIBIASE v TITO SANTANA from Houston, 1983. Bill Watts does commentary, as uses this match as a soundboard to go off on the WWF. This match was about 2 years old when it aired, but Watts uses it as "proof that the WWF's Intercontinental champ is no match for Dibiase". Huh? In an all action, back and forth match, Dibiase uses the loaded glove to get the pin. 4 ***.

BRUISER BRODY v RICK RUDE, jip from Ft. Worth, 1986. Good match.

EDDIE GILBERT & TOMMY RICH v KOKO WARE & NORVELL AUSTIN from Memphis, 1984- an all-time great, classic brawl- unbelievable as they fight to the top of the Mid-South Coliseum and back down again- A MUST SEE, 5 *** riot!!

JERRY LAWLER v KING KONG BUNDY from Memphis, 1984.

TITO SANTANA v BOB ORTON JR from St. Louis, 1984. Good match, 3 ***

**I didn’t think anything existed between Backlund and Arion outside of their Philly match which aired on 24/7 last year.

TAPE # A1695: NWA WRESTLING FROM PHILADELPHIA, 1988 - 1989:

**Some extremely rare footage shot with a camcorder from the audience.

Ric Flair v Ricky Steamboat- 4 1/2 ***.

The video quality of this tape would be very good if not for some on and off interference, tracking faults, and audio dips. Still good video. 2 hours.

**best, probably only chance to upgrade this, I think.

I would assume moving quickly on this would be good, since he's obviously going to sell the tapes as quick as he can. Keep me posted either on this board, PWO, or via email at khawk20AThotmailDOT com.

 

Bix's initial wants off the short list plus my own are almost all must-haves for me unless someone has them in nicer quality than John's tapes would be. Whatever else ends up on the final list is ok by me.

 

Not sure who else to consider bringing in on this, but if any names come to mind I'll post them and y'all can decide on whether to include them or not.

Looking over the HH lists at CM, only one match from TAPE #A1529: NWA and WWF RAW FOOTAGE from 1984 - 1987 looks to be available so I'm adding it to the must-haves.

 

Should I order the musts/grails from John now and sort out the rest later? I think that's the best way to start.

Priority stuff should be the priority yes.
