Lance Von Erich vs. Matt Borne

I liked this bout. Heck I like meat and potatoes matches. Lance did a real good job working over Borne's arm. This section of the bout ws good. Lance would work the arm and work spots around it. Borne would finally got the heat and worked over Lance's neck and back. I would have liked Borne to control the heat segment a little longer but oh well. Again this is a good bout, the finish is a little blah but I digress. This was a good meat and potatoes bout and a nomination.

This was a really great match that told a simple story about determination and focus. Lance gave one of his best performances here. His work on Borne's arm was good. I liked how Borne kept finding or trying to find ways to fight him off, and I liked how Lance kept going right back to it. Similarly, when Borne took control after that sweet looking hotshot, he laid a nice beating on Lance, but Lance hung in there and kept trying to fight back, before making that great escape of the camel clutch and turning it into a hotshot of his own. I can see why shoe was a little down on the finish, and it wasn't great, but it made some sense in the context of the match. Both guys were really determined and focused the whole time. Matt drops the Bombs Away/Whoopie Cushion on Lance, but in typical heel fashion, gets too cocky and doesn't finish him off right there, and he pays for it. Why he instead tried to finish off the way he did (jackknife hold without the hold, if that makes any sense), I don't know, but I see what they were going for. Either way, I second the nomination.

Lance Von Erich vs. Matt Borne WCCW 5/14/87

- Lance gets the better of Borne early on. Early on, Borne is trying to wrap Lance’s leg around the rope so Lance just punches him in the face uuntil he lets go. Good enough for me. Lance works an armbar for awhile but they don’t do much with it. I don’t mind working a hold, lord knows I have nominated enough matches with body work but work it dammit. OK, they heard me because they start doing more signature Lance arm spots. After ten minutes working the arm, Borne finally takes over with an inverted atomic drop. Borne starts working the neck and throat and the work is ok but nothing really memorable. Lance makes the big comeback but misses a top rope splash. Borne hits the Whoopie Cushion but pulls Lance up at two. Big mistake as Lance ends up getting the pin in a backslide. Nice hot ending but there was a lot of dead weight early on. This would be a good low-level nomination because I liked parts of the match but some of that dead space was killing me.
