Posted March 27, 201015 yr comment_5448662 Lumberjack Match for the Unified Heavyweight Title: Jerry "The King" Lawler vs. "Flamboyant" Eric Embry (9/22/89) Lawler is awesome on the mic here bashing everyone before Embry jacks his jaw and the lumberjacks are all faces. The fans are going nuts for Embry as he works over Lawler with a sleeper hold. Lawler would break free before both would punch each other at the same time which was great. Lawler would get the advantage before nailing Embry with a piledriver but made a cocky cover allowing Embry to cradle his arms for a nearfall. Lawler recovered though and with help from the dreaded chain would keep Embry down on the mat. Embry would eventually fire back though and then stuck his hand in Lawler's trunks to steal the chain which was cool and Lawler was awesome here selling everything. Embry would go for a piledriver but Devastation Inc. would show up with Embry knocking Lawler over the top rope to the floor. Travis would hold up Lawler for Embry to hit him but that would fail so Travis would get a steel chair to hit Lawler with Embry holding him but that failed. Lawler would roll Embry back in the ring to get the pin as Travis would walk away from the ring. This was lots of fun and featured some great punches with a hot angle at the end this moves forward.
April 2, 201015 yr comment_5448889 I'm not sure I ever needed to see Embry reaching into Lawler's tights regardless of the reason, but this was still a great bout. I second the nomination. [uSWA Texas 9/89-10/89 #2]
June 11, 201015 yr comment_5451844 Lumberjack: Jerry Lawler vs. Eric Embry 9/22/89 (Legends 9/20/90) - Weird, I only count three lumberjacks. What the hell is that? Anyway, Lawler gets thrown out to Funk early on and Embry applies a sleeper really early in the match. Lawler breaks it with a jawbreaker. In the first real cool spot of the match, both Embry and Lawler connect with solid punches at the exact time in a double knockout spot. After a commercial break, Lawler goes back to the chain game. At one point, Lawler reaches for the chain, Embry comes back behind him and tries reaching for it as well… in Lawler’s trunks. That looked strange. On the outside, Travis holds Lawler but Embry accidentally punches Travis. Travis comes back with a chair and accidentally nails Embry with it allowing Lawler to pick up a win. I think the lumberjack stip in this match was really useless and the same result could have been achieved with Travis as Embry’s second. This match had its moments but doesn’t come close to the earlier match. I’ll back it as a low-level nomination but wouldn’t be upset if it didn’t make the set.
