I could see being convinced otherwise though. Rayo de Jalisco Jr./Mascara 2000/Tony Salazar vs. Perro Aguayo/Herodes/Tony Bennetto This is exactly the kind of lucha I am a sucker for, big tough mean looking guys beating on each other. Fun brawl with great bumping and punches, I hadn't seen much of Salazar before but he looked really slick, Herodes bumps like a freak as usual, and the finish with psycho Aguayo choking a motherfucker with a cable ruled. Fun, fun shit. Atlantis vs. El Faraon (Middleweight Title Match) Faron was great here, I had no beef with Atlantis at all, I thought he looked great, especially with the crazy dives in the third fall. Faron had one super slick mat counter which was one of the cooler things I have seen on this set so far. Makes it on, should finish high Sangre Chicana/La Fiera/Manuel "Mocho" Cota vs. El Satanico/MS-1/Pirata Morgan Match cuts out before the finish, it was solid but unspectacular before that.
January 12, 201213 yr comment_5492257 Americo Rocca/Chamaco Valaguez/Galactica vs. El Dandy/Fuerza Guerrera/Talisman This is JIP right at the end of the first fall, and while some cool stuff happens after that, it's not nearly enough to get this on the set. Rayo de Jalisco Jr./Mascara 2000/Tony Salazar vs. Perro Aguayo/Herodes/Tony Bennetto This got good, but it took a while to get there, and I wasn't really that excited about it when it was over. The first fall is largely built around two things: Tony Bennetto not getting along with his teammates, and Tony Salazar wanting to fight Perro, but Perro not wanting to get in the ring with him. The former feels really distracting, and while the latter gets built up well, but totally blows the payoff. Builds up with Salazar as angry vengeful technico and Perro as cautious cowardly rudo, but when they finally square off, it's all lightweight fluff with Salazar working as fun, evasive Road Runner technico and Perro as his Wile E. Coyote. And it's not even particularly well-done Road Runner/Wile E. Coyote stuff. I actually thought Salazar looked kinda bad in this match. He's been much slicker elsewhere. Like I said, this got pretty good eventually. Herodes especially put in a good effort to put this match over for me. I certainly didn't hate it, but it doesn't merit nomination. That said, the post-match bit with Perro and Herodes turning on Bennetto and choking him out with the cable was awesome, and I could see including this match as an extra for that. Atlantis vs. El Faraon (Middleweight Title Match) Atlantis does some really weird looking, over the top, Shawn Michaelsish selling late in the first fall, all flopping around like a fish on the mat for some reason. At one point I think he actually sells a move by doing the worm. It's very off-putting, and it does drag the match down a little. Other than that, though, I have nothing bad to say about this. Faraon looked great throughout, and was really slick on the mat early on. Atlantis looked great other than that one weird patch of selling, and really cranked in his holds in the early mat exchanges, which looked great. Even Rayo and Dandy had a few fun moments as the seconds getting into it with one another. Really made me want to see them have a singles match. Yeah, this moves forward.
July 16, 201213 yr comment_5510330 Galactica/Americo Rocca/Chamaco Valaguez vs. El Dandy/Fuerza Guerrera/Talisman (3/22/85) Helluva rudo trio but the fact it's clipped hurts and the tecnico side didn't do enough for me to warrant a nomination. Dandy & Fuerza were great though and Talisman bled. Mascara Ano Dos Mil/Rayo de Jalisco Jr./Tony Salazar vs. Perro Aguayo/Tony Benetto (Gran Markus Jr.)/Herodes (3/22/85) It's gotten to the point on this where I'm looking forward to Salazar matches and he delivered again here with his exchanges with Perro being really fun although there were some psychology issues at times. Benetto looked good in what he did when he wasn't arguing with his teammates and Herodes yet again pinballs around really well for a guy his size. MA2K & Rayo were fine here in their roles but the stories here was Perro/Salazar and the impeding turn of Benetto. Benetto got the shit kicked out of him after the match with Perro choking him out with the ringside cable. This was very fun and I'll back this as a low-end nomination. Mexican National Middleweight Title: Atlantis © vs. El Faraon (3/22/85) Lucha title match time so we get the obligatory great matwork with Atlantis doing some pretty fun overselling at times for Faraon's stuff. Faraon really showed out here as he was great working the mat and just taking control of the match in general leading the young Atlantis along. Atlantis' comeback was fun and spirited with the fans behind him as he stretched him to take the 2nd fall. 3rd fall was lots of fun as the intensity stepped up and Atlantis started breaking out his aerial game before the stretch run and the nice finish. This is a fairly easy nomination to me.
