Posted March 31, 201015 yr comment_5448813 Akbar/Perez Interview Devestation Inc. is regrouping after Embry beat Chu-Hi to end the World Class era. Finish of the aforementioned Embry/Chu-Hi match Billy Joe Travis Interview He keeps referring to the place as World Class Championship Wrestling in spite of all the stuff just shown. In his defense, he looked really plastered. Embry/Pringle Interview They thank the fans for their support and Embry promises to take the Texas Title from P.Y. Chu-Hi. Gary Young Interview If you like solidarity, why don't you move to Poland? Akbar/Yamamoto Interview Akbar swears revenge on the "United States Sanitation Wrestling Association" while Tojo enthusiastically pats him on the back. Extra. Cactus Jack Manson & Sheikh Braddock vs. Jeff Jarrett & Matt Borne (World Tag Team Title Match) We celebrate the first episode of USWA Texas with a great long Southern tag match. Frank Dusek comes out in the babyfaces' corner after having been fired by Akbar during the final weeks of the World Class era. Jarrett and Foley have really good exchanges throughout the match. Their early stuff with the faces in control had a fun bit where Jarrett leapfrogged Cactus twice while running the ropes, and then Cactus tried to do the same, only for Jarrett to stop short the second time and dropkick him in the back. Jarrett does the flip out of the Rocker Dropper position that so many smallish babyfaces of the age did for some reason, but flips on a bit of a different axis, which looked kinda neat, and ate a big clothesline from Cactus when he landed to transition to the FIP segment. He eats a great beating from Cactus - including the "Consequences", which was apparently the proper name for the Hipbuster elbowdrop - and to a lesser extent from Braddock, who looks more awkward than bad here. The heels seemingly score the win, but Dusek hits the ring to show ref Tony Falk that Jarrett had his foot on the ropes, so Falk restarts it to the dismay of the heels. Great hot tag segment as Cactus tries to drop the Consequences on Jarrett again, but Jarrett moves and Cactus gets splattered on the concrete even more so than usual, and then Jarrett slowly crawls back in to his corner with Cactus slowly crawling back in after him, but Jarrett makes it in time. Borne cleans house, ultimately hitting his swank German suplex on Cactus for the win and the belts. Dusek gets in the ring to celebrate with them, which is a nice feel-good moment. Nomination. Billy Joe Travis Interview He knows it's the USWA now, though he looks even more plastered. Either that, or he was in the early stages of Parkinson's. Jarrett/Borne Interview Jarrett promises to take on all comers and Borne talks about snakes. Jarrett/Travis "Raise Your Hands" Music Video This is all stuff from Memphis. Billy Joe Travis vs. Frogman LaBlanc Nothing much here. Al Perez Interview Nothing. Akbar/Yamamoto Interview There's a bounty out on Embry's head. Jerry Lawler "Turn the Page" Music Video This was on the Memphis set. Eric Embry & Chris Adams vs. P.Y. Chu-Hi & Gary Young Marc Lowrance mentions on commentary that there are rumors going around that P.Y. Chu-Hi might not really be Asian. (*gasp!*) This was a ton of fun. Lots of great comedy shtick in the first half of the match as Embry wants to fight Chu-Hi and Adams wants to fight Young, but not vice-versa, so whenever Embry tags in, Chu-Hi tags out, so Adams tags in, but then Young tags out, so Embry tags in....Once they finally get started, they dominate the heels until the ref gets distracted and they hit Embry's injured knee with the kendo stick. Embry milks the FIP section for all it's worth, with several near tags, multiple distractions that put Adams out of position, a false tag, and Tojo Yamamoto spending most of the match incoherently yelling on the house mic. Adams' hot tag is huge, as Young is trying to stop Embry from getting it, but when Adams gets in, he can only manage to beg off for a moment before eating a superkick. The babyface comeback for the finish feels a little short given how long the match built, but this is still an easy nomination. Skandor Akbar Interview He introduces us to Taurus Bulba. Jimmy Jack Funk vs. Sheikh Braddock Braddock sucks, but you knew that. Percy Pringle Interview Is what it is. Yamamoto & Chu-Hi attack Toni Adams Marc Lowrance went out to the west coast one week, so Toni Adams was brought in to join Frank Dusek on commentary for that show. Earlier that same night, Eric Embry had beaten P.Y. Chu-Hi in nine seconds to win the Texas Title, so Tojo Yamamoto came to ringside during...whatever the hell match this was to yell at Frank Dusek. He then starts getting into it with Toni ("I don't like you, four eyes!"....admittedly, her glasses are not very flattering). Dusek stands up and tries to get Tojo to leave her alone, but Tojo throws salt in his eyes. Chu-Hi grabs Toni and pulls her out her chair, and Tojo...well, it's not entirely clear what he's doing. He puts his hand over her mouth, and might be pinching her nose...is he trying to suffocate her? Then he takes his hand off, and it abruptly cuts to a black screen with the word "CENSORED" printed on it, while the audio feed continues to play. That description may not sound favorable, but on a certain level, but I thought the ambiguity of what Tojo was doing to her - on top of the deliberate ambiguity of the censored part - just made it all the more unnerving. When the video comes back, Toni is on the floor screaming hysterically. Chris - who we learn was in the showers following his own match while this was going down - runs the heels off and totally flips out, even throwing a chair at Frank Dusek since he didn't know that he had been taken out before anything happened. This was a million times edgier and more "adult" than anything Vince Russo has ever booked, and one of a small handful of wrestling angles I've ever seen that were genuinely alarming in a good way. Slam dunk extra. Eric Embry vs. Cactus Jack Manson (Loser Leaves Town) Embry beats Cactus in 12 seconds flat to send him packing. Gary Young Interview Gary talks up Devastation Inc., specifically himself, Braddock, and some other guy I don't recognize. Jerry Lawler Interview He talks up how he's the only true World Champion in wrestling. Eric Embry "Wind Beneath My Wings" Music Video Extra. Matt Borne & Billy Joe Travis vs. Al Perez & Gary Young It's kinda weird now to look back on Marc Lowrance seeing Matt Borne wrestling in pink shorts and commenting on how strange his choice of gear is. Give him a couple more years, Marc, and than you can start commenting on Borne's unusual ring gear. Gary Young is doing a "Natural" gimmick now where he dyes his hair an odd-looking reddish-brown color and then claims it's his natural color. Sadly, these are the highlights of a match that should've been a lot better than it was. Jarrett/Borne Interview Nothing special. Billy Joe Travis vs. Buster Fowler "The Dog of War" Buster Fowler is the guy from the earlier Perez promo who I couldn't identify. He's kinda shitty. The Punisher Interview Skandor Akbar gave The Punisher a call out in the Badlands, and now he's on his way to help take out Eric Embry. Akbar/Young Interview Nothing special. Jerry Lawler Interview The King talks shit about Eric Embry and how the caliber of competition in Texas has really gone down if he's the best challenger they can offer. Chris Adams vs. P.Y. Chu-Hi No match, as Adams clocks the referee not long after he starts beating on Chu-Hi, as he's just out for revenge here. He pummels Chu-Hi and Tojo until Gary Young comes out to turn the tide, and the heels beat on Adams until Embry and Borne run them off. Extra.
