Posted April 2, 201015 yr comment_5448890 Percy Pringle Interview He talks Jerry Lawler. Coming Attractions They show a bunch of the guys who will be coming in soon via the Open Door Policy. Skandor Akbar Interview It works. Kerry Von Erich vs. Taurus Bulba (Falls Count Anywhere) Odd that the falls count anywhere match would be used to set up the straight singles match, but whatever. Fun bit early on where they're grappling and Kerry shoves Bulba down and does a little strut, and then Bulba gets up and starts stomping around. Things spill to the outside, of course, and it becomes a wild brawl, with Bulba getting tossed out the Sportatorium door at one point. You can see why Kerry would try to "outsmart Bulba with wrestling" in the rematch as Bulba keeps outsmarting Kerry in a fight. He blocks the discus punch to hit a nice shot of his own, followed by the Ode to Killer Khan high-pitched yell and a headbutt. He also blocks the Iron Claw twice when Kerry takes too long teasing it. Once it gets Kerry poked in the eyes, but the other time it lets Bulba sink in the Mongolian Claw, and after a long struggle, Kerry goes out and Bulba gets a clean pin. He refuses to let go of the Claw, and Kerry starts bleeding before the other faces come out from the back to chase off him and Akbar. Kerry gets stretchered out as Marc Lowrance bemoans the indignity of Kerry losing to a "foreign claw". Like the rematch, this was a great brawl with a nice dollop of shtick thrown on top. Easy nomination. Skandor Akbar Interview Standard stuff. Billy Joe Travis vs. Gary Young Good, but could've been better. Jimmy Jack Funk vs. Skandor Akbar (Chain Match - SR: Frank Dusek) Jimmy Jack's offense in this match looked really tame for some reason. This was not very good. It was also not very long, though. Jerry Lawler vs. Eric Embry (Unified World Title Match) This was Lawler teaching a master class in heel stooging, and it was magnificent. Seconded. Percy Pringle Interview Pringle says he's never seen anything like The Punisher before. Don't worry, Percy. You'll get used to him. Jeff Jarrett, Matt Borne, & Billy Joe Travis vs. Al Perez, Ron Starr, & Sheikh Braddock This is Rotten Ron Starr's debut, and Frank Dusek gives him the most backhanded endorsement ever on commentary, basically saying that he's old and out of shape, but he's kinda mean, so he's got that going for him. But Starr ends up putting on a really strong performance here, as he delivers a hell of a beating on Billy Joe Travis, who is a great FIP. Perez helps the cause as well when he gets in the ring, and Braddock helps the cause by staying out of it after spending the early portion of the match struggling to eat the faces' offense. A strong six-man tag bout, and worthy of a low-end nomination. Skandor Akbar Interview Starr is part of Devastation Inc. now. It is a roll, it's on a roll, and it's rolling. Rock 'N' Roll Express "Rock and Roll All Night" Music Video This was produced by USWA's own Video Bob! Chris Adams vs. P.Y. Chu-Hi If Adams wins, he gets five minutes in the ring with Tojo Yamamoto. If Chu-Hi wins, Tojo gets five minutes in the ring with Toni Adams. This is a brawl right from the start, with both guys all over one another. Chu-Hi gains the advantage, but Adams shifts his strategy and starts kicking the shit out of Chu-Hi's leg. He lays a boot in on Chu-Hi's sack before climbing to the top, but Chu-Hi dives into the corner and sends Adams into a less silly version of the DDP/Machine finish where he falls off to the side and crotches himself on the top rope. Chu-Hi decides to further avenge the earlier punt to his balls by repeatedly crotching Adams on the top rope. Toni understanably freaks out, drawing the attention of the ref and allowing Tojo to come in with the kendo stick, but Adams ducks it and Tojo gets hit instead, allowing Adams to score the pin. Tojo wastes little time is tossing salt in Adams eyes, allowing him to gently dominate much of their five minutes. Adams comes back, though and starts stomping Tojo into the mat, and lets Toni into the ring to give him a good slap across the face, too. Taurus Bulba runs in to break up the fun, and he, Tojo, and Chu-Hi beat on Adams until Kerry Von Erich runs them off. Really good match that felt like a maybe nomination, but it's a slam dunk extra if it's not on the main list. Gary Young Interview Nothing special. Jerry Lawler Interview Eric Embry Interview They talk about their previous match and hype up the lumberjack re-match. Extras. Kerry Von Erich vs. Taurus Bulba I gotta say, I was not expecting this to be such a deep and rewarding feud. Kerry still has not learned to confuse Bulba with wrestling, but the brawling here is really good, and Kerry has learned not to take so much time teasing the Claw. And well, this match is all about the Claw, both Kerry's and Bulba's, and is loaded with great dueling Claw spots. Bulba keeps sliding out of the ring early on to avoid Kerry's claw, both guys get to block the other's forehead claw and counter with abdominal claws, and of course, Bulba locks on the Mongolian Claw near the end, looking like he's going to put Kerry out with it again, but Kerry has the wherewithal to grab the Iron Claw at the same time. Bulba throws Kerry off into the ref, and then hits a nasty leaping headbutt to the back of Kerry's head to send him to the outside. This all leads to the screwy but awesome finish where the brawl over to one of the ringposts, where Bulba manages to keep Kerry in place long enough for Skandor Akbar to tie Kerry's hand to the post with his own wrist tape. Bulba then repeatedly headbutts Kerry's hand into the post - starting with Akbar actually throwing Bulba's head into it - to the point that Bulba actually busts himself open headbutting it! Bronko Lubich comes to and throws the match out (you can pick from any number of reasons why, but no specific result is ever given), and Bulba keeps headbutting the hand until Chris Adams runs out to make the save. Another great outing from these two, and another nomination. Taurus Bulba vs. Ron Ellis Squash. Kerry Von Erich vs. Taurus Bulba JIP to the finish of their third match, which I've seen already. Billy Joe Travis vs. The Punisher Embry comes to the ring in a very, very ill-advised belly shirt, wanting to take Travis' place in the match. Travis is having no part of it, though, and Embry shrugs his shoulders and leaves. Cut to the finish of the match, as Punisher is dominating until Embry comes back out with a board and goes after the Punisher. Bulba comes out to gang up on Embry, but then Kerry comes out, and he and Embry are able to drive the heels off. The Punisher vs. Jimmy James This was supposed to be a rematch with Billy Joe Travis, but Travis' leg is injured, so he instead sits in on commentary while James takes his place. Travis isn't happy about Embry getting involved in his last match, leading to him getting DQ'd and dealing him his first loss since coming to Texas. Match is a squash. Jimmy Valiant Music Video Preview of the Boogie Man, who is on his way to the area. Jerry Lawler vs. Eric Embry (Lumberjack Match for the Unified World Heavyweight Title) I'm not sure I ever needed to see Embry reaching into Lawler's tights regardless of the reason, but this was still a great bout. I second the nomination.
