Posted April 6, 201015 yr comment_5449085 Chris Adams vs. P.Y. Chu-Hi (Lumberjack Match) Good, but definitely the least of their matches, largely because the gimmick doesn't really fit with the intensely personal nature of the feud. Young/Travis Interview Is what it is. Bill Dundee vs. Gary Young Dundee is out for revenge after their Texas Death Match went awry, and while this doesn't quite live up to it's predecessor, Dundee still puts on a hell of a show and makes this a great match in it's own right. I'll call it a low-end nom and see where it goes Akbar/Yamamoto Interview Standard stuff. Matt Borne Interview Borne is none too pleased about Ron Starr burning him with a cigar. Possible extra. Eric Embry vs. Billy Joe Travis (No DQ Match) Travis is a total cheeseball, and he is great riling up the fans. Embry wastes no time in going after him, and Travis bumps all over the place until the No DQ match ends in a DQ when Gary Young and P.Y. Chu-Hi run in. Travis bails out and Jeff Jarrett runs in to help Embry fight off the remaining heels, allowing Embry to head to the parking lot to try and catch up with Embry. Extra. Terry Garvin Interview He's the new color commentator. USWA Road Report with Percy Pringle They're in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, where Jeff Jarrett and Matt Borne go through some basic training before they put on a show for the troops. Chris Adams Interview He pitches the 1990 USWA training camp, and in the process, introduces us to one of his current top proteges at the camp, Steve Williams - that is to say, Steve Austin. May be an extra on general principle. The Punisher vs. Kerry Von Erich (Texas Title Match) A good match thanks to Kerry. Punisher had some charisma to him, but was lacking in the ring. For Kerry vs. green big men matches, didn't like this as much as Kerry/Sid. Akbar/Young/Travis Interview Travis is owed two gee-tars. Jimmy Jack Funk vs. Taurus Bulba Impressive, high energy match. Bulba bumps around a lot for Funk's offense early, and Funk returns the favor later on, including eating a big kneelift that sends him spilling over the top rope. Great looking finish, too, with Bulba missing a Stinger splash into the corner and getting rolled up. Didn't know that Bulba had the mad hops. Too short for a nomination. Maybe an extra. This is also Terry Garvin's first appearance as the new color commentator, and they have a security guard standing by, with the implication being that the crowd is that homophobic. Chris Adams vs. Billy Joe Travis JIP to the end of the match. Adams has been handcuffed to the ropes, and Travis goes outside and grabs Toni Adams. He throws her in the ring, throws her skirt up, and starts spanking her just out of reach of an incensed Adams. The babyfaces eventually run Travis off, but Toni has suffered another indignity that Chris will have to avenge. Extra. Percy Pringle Interview He talks about getting El Kabonged by Billy Joe Travis and how he'll pay for it. Jerry Lawler vs. Terry Gordy (Unified World Title Match) Like this is going to be anything less than awesome. Jerry's pre-match taunting of Gordy and the fans was great. He takes too long admiing his belt, and Gordy just rolls in with a big boot. Lawler tries to be evasive, but Gordy just keeps coming after him. This is the rare Lawler title defense where his "hide the chain" stuff is the low point of the match. He was playing more fast and loose with it than usual, which strained credibility a bit. I get the sense he wanted to do a more straightforward brawl with Gordy, but knew that wasn't what he was here to do. It doesn't matter, because that's what it breaks down into, anyway. They brawl at ringside, knocking Tony Falk away and beating on each other with fists and chairs until Bronko Lubich comes out from the back to throw the match out. Sadly, not enough here for a nomination, but a definite extra. Bill Dundee Interview He's happy wherever he goes. Recap of Billy Joe Travis & Jeff Jarrett-related things Shows Travis clocking Percy Pringle with a guitar, and damn, that caught him good. Later, Jeff Jarrett smacks around Tojo Yamamoto and Skandor Akbar, and then Devastation Inc. repays the favor by ganging up on him and holding him down while P.Y. Chu-Hi beats him with a big leather strap. Tojo Yamamoto Interview He cuts most of the promo in Japanese, making it more coherent, and thus less interesting. Dustin Rhodes vs. Buster Fowler Dustin makes short work of The Dog of War in his debut. Afterwords, Gary Young comes out to yell at Dustin, as he apparently had some issues with Dusty in the past. Matt Borne Interview He's gonna be back Friday night! Young/Travis Interview Travis has a new guitar courtesy of Bob Seger (allegedly). Replay of Jarrett getting strapped Jeff Jarrett vs. P.Y. Chu-Hi There was some really good action in this match. I'll pass on a nomination since, while I get that WCCW/USWA was letting a lot of things slide rule-wise outside the ring, this one was almost Russo-era WCW-level stretching credulity in a promotion that still has DQs. But unlike 2000 WCW, at least the credulity-stretching stuff was exciting. Dustin Rhodes Interview Dustin is trying to be his dad, and it doesn't quite work. Replay of Billy Joe Travis hitting Percy Pringle with his guitar Eric Embry & Bill Dundee vs. Gary Young & Billy Joe Travis Surprisingly (and unfortunately) restrained performance from Embry, but Dundee and the heels came up big here. Great big bumping performance from the Devastation Inc. crew as Dundee knocks them around the ring before they take over and Dundee plays FIP. Embry gets the hot tag, but Skandor Akbar tosses in the coal miner's glove. Dundee intercepts it, but Young tackles him into Bronko Lubich, and then Travis clocks Dundee with his new guitar, letting him score the pin. Nomination. Dustin Rhodes vs. The Texas Battleship II/The Masked Eliminator The TV says the former, Marc Lowrance says the latter. Doesn't really matter, as Dustin squashes him pretty quickly. Gary Young comes out to yell at Dustin again.
