Steve Nelson/Apollo Dantes/El Dandy v. Maskare/MS-1/Mascara Ano 2000

Really fun match, I don't remember seeing Nelson before but he was pretty great here. I loved his opening caida matwork with Maskaree. Dandy is tremendous too, he make take a clothesline as well as anyone ever. Third fall isn't as good as the first, but this is a solid nomination

Lizmark/Ray De Jalisco Jr./Atlantis v. Pirata Morgan/Cien Caras/Gran Markus

The first fall was pretty good with a beautiful Atlantis quebrada and fun Pirata bumping. The second and third fall was decent but underwhelming brawling, with lots of Fabuloso Blonde interference. Enjoyed it, but it is a step below a nomination

El Faron v. El Satanico

I liked a lot of this, Satanico is always going to be worth watching and he did a bunch of little cool things. Great back headbutt, but I thought the super active ref was annoying and this never kicked it up to the level you would hope it would get. Good, but I am going to go no on a nomination

Javier Cruz v. Hombre Bala- Callbera v. Callbera

The first two falls are pretty pedestrian, but they really kick into gear in the third fall and we get a bloody intense hair match. Cruz is really great at taking bumps to the floor as he just floats over the top rope and lands hard. There is a really great spot where Bala sets up for a plancha, Cruz runs away and Bala back flips into the ring and nails him with a perfectly timed tope. They also had a bunch of cool double punch, double clothesline and double pin spots. This isn't at the level of the super high end hair matches, but it should make a set.

Steve Nelson/Apollo Dantes/El Dandy v. Maskare/MS-1/Mascara Ano 2000

Man, Steve Nelson ruled it. Who is he? What happened to him? He seems like he'd be an interesting guy to make a random comeback in IWRG or something. He and Masakre have a great exchange in the first fall, as did Dandy and MA2K, and then everything breaks down into something meaner, and it just keeps being fun throughout the whole thing. Never got to the next level, and feels like kind of a low-end nom, but a lot of cool and interesting performances from everyone involved.

Lizmark/Ray De Jalisco Jr./Atlantis v. Pirata Morgan/Cien Caras/Gran Markus

This got pretty wild and out-of-control, which is a setting Pirata usually excels in, but he's actually one of the lesser guys here. Not that he's bad, of course. He had some great bumping in the primera caida. But he didn't get much of a spotlight in this match. This was all about Rayo and Cien hating each other's guts, Atlantis being spectacular, and Ken Timbs sitting in the front row and being a distraction to the technicos, roughly in that order. And well, they delivered on those fronts. Rayo and Cien looked great against each other and got a ton of heat from the crowd, Atlantis looked like a king on offense, and while Timbs didn't add a ton to the match, I don't think he was out of place. Indeed, even with a comparatively unspectacular Pirata performance, Markus kinda looking like a chump, and Rayo and Cien spending much of the segunda caida brawling in a dark section of the crowd where I couldn't actually see what was happening, this was still well on the way to GREATness. That got decisively shut down by a tercera caida that barely seemed to exist. It's not long before Cien fouls Rayo and pins him, bringing the match to a very abrupt and awkward end. But on the bright side, they cover for it with a crazy post-match brawl that has Rayo and Cien totally teeing off on one another, Timbs charging into action, the crowd throwing trash at the rudos, and ends with Rayo and Atlantis both getting unmasked, with Rayo trying to make his way to the back, swinging wildly at officials while his head is wrapped in a green sweater. Don't count on seeing this as a match on the 80's Lucha set, but the post-match stuff might merit consideration as an extra.

El Faron v. El Satanico

There was some good stuff here, but Gran Davis was really laying it on thick here.

Javier Cruz v. Hombre Bala- Callbera v. Callbera

I don't know. Third fall was really, really good, but the first two totally fell flat with me. I mean if we were doing the best individual lucha caidas of the 80's, that third fall would make the cut. But as a whole, I am not sold on this one.

Apolo Dantes/El Dandy/Steve Nelson vs. Mascara Ano Dos Mil/Masakre/MS-1 (6/29/89)

There was some really good matwork across the board here in the 1st fall with Apolo & Nelson looking strong competing against the grizzled vets. Damn did Dandy take MA2K's clothesline like a fuckin champ here. The action would get more spirited with some really great bumping here especially by Dandy and while the 1st fall was the best fall of the match the rest still was good enough to warrant a nomination.

Atlantis/Lizmark/Rayo de Jalisco Jr. vs. Cien Caras/Gran Markus Jr./Pirata Morgan (6/29/89)

Fabulouso Blondy is in the front row terrorizing the tecnicos from ringside but the main story here is the hatred between Rayo & Cien which was pretty great but this match had some issues as Pirata was underwhelming and Markus was pretty crappy to go along with some of the brawling between Rayo & Cien was in the dark part of the building. Atlantis was really good here but Lizmark was like Pirata in that he was just going through the motions. If the 3rd fall would've actually been more than just Cien fouling Rayo then this could've been a nomination but it wasn't so it's not a nom. The post-match insanity was really good though with Blondy getting involved and that might be extra material.

El Faraon vs. Satanico (6/29/89)

Damn you would think a match between these two would be a nomination but nope although it wasn't because of the wrestlers as much as Gran Davis really hamming it up here as the rudo referee. Satanico was solid as usual and Faraon was decent but Davis made himself the focus of the match so no on a nomination.

Caballera contra Caballera: Javier "El Monarca" Cruz vs. Hombre Bala (6/29/89)

Bala's gold jacket here is fabulous. Bala was fun here early on just pounding on Cruz who comes firing back with a sweet missile dropkick and tope suicida. Bala takes a great bump from a post shot on the apron to the floor to start the 2nd fall and Cruz keeps firing away on him with Bala's comeback being unspectacular but does the job. 3rd fall has everything you want in a 3rd fall from a hair match as you get violence, blood, diving, and bumping with both men looking great. I really liked this a lot and I think it's a solid nomination.
