Posted April 8, 201015 yr comment_5449177 Chris Youngblood vs. Steve Williams Williams is Austin, not Dr. Death. This is a competitive squash for Youngblood, who looks great heeling it up and busting out some nifty offense here. Still, the crowd is really behind Steve, even at this early date. Kevin Von Erich vs. P.Y. Chu-Hi Good while it lasts. Devastation Inc. plus Chris Youngblood roll out to attack Kevin while he has Chu-Hi in the Claw, but the faces run them off. Jeff Jarrett & Matt Borne vs. The Stud Stable (Texas Tag Title Tournament Finals) Not sure why they're showing this now, but whatever. Good bout. The Stud Stable had underwhelmed throughout the tournament, while Jarrett and Borne have looked great. Here, it's The Stud Stable that carries the match while Jarrett and Borne underwhelm. Go figure. The Stud Stable vs. Jeff Jarrett & Matt Borne (Texas Tag Title Match) This one was surprisingly dull. It was trying to be the kind of match that would appeal to me, with a bunch of shtick early on going into your classic formula stuff, but it just never quite clicked with me. Tojo Yamamoto vs. Chico Torrez All throughout this episode, Terry Garvin has been absent, so various other folks have been dropping by to provide guest commentary. Skandor Akbar has joined Marc Lowrance for this bout, and he is scouting Chico, who wins with a crossbody. Not really a squash nor competitive. It's mostly them feeling each other out, followed by a brief flurry of Tojo offense and then the winning crossbody. Eric Embry, Chris Adams, & Bill Dundee vs. Gary Young, Billy Joe Travis, & Skandor Akbar Funny moment during the entrance as Adams gives a smooch to an enthusiastic lady in the audience, but then accidentally knocks her beer out of her hand as he's walking away. Match has a ton of great shtick early on. The faces are having a great time toying with the heels, and Dundee tees off on them really well. Travis is an especially great comic foil. However, the tide turns, and Adams finds himself trapped as the FIP. The heels spend 10+ minutes ripping the shit out of his quad. Several times throughout the match, he gets tossed to the outside, where Toni Adams tries to check on him, concerned for his condition, while Embry tries to help him back in the ring to avoid the countout loss. As it goes on, there's an obvious difference of opinion developing, as Toni thinks Chris has taken too much punishment and wants to take the loss so he doesn't get hurt any worse, while Embry is confident Chris can gut it out and they can win the match. After about the fifth time Chris is chucked to the outside, this reaches the breaking point, as Toni tries to stop Embry from getting him back in the ring, and Embry loses his cool and shoves Toni down. He immediately realizes that wasn't cool and tries to help her back up, but Chris is pissed and starts brawling with Embry. Dundee's attempts to break it up are in vain, and just lead to him getting triple-teamed by the heels while Embry and Adams keep fighting. The ref throws the match out, and the faces hit the ring en masse to try and separate the two while the heels laugh their way up the aisle. This was all action, but the lack of any kind of finish or third act to the match keep it from being a nomination. It is, however, a slam dunk extra. Eric Embry vs. Chris Adams Both men cut promos before the match saying that they realize that neither man really meant to wrong the other, that tempers just got out of control, and that they don't really want to fight eaach other anymore, but their names are on the dotted line, so they're going to have to go ahead with the match anyway, and "may the best wrestler win". Take a wild guess how this one turns out. They start slugging it out, and when Bronk Lubich tries to separate them, Embry pops him one. Tony Falk hits the ring to call for the bell, and Adams pops him one. The babyface locker room empties to pull them apart, and this is another extra. Jerry Lawler vs. Kerry Von Erich (Unified World Title vs. Texas Title Match) Double or nothing match with both belts on the line. This has some of your usual great Lawler in Texas stuff, including the requisite insulting of the crowd ("I wanted to get you all something for Christmas...something that you need...but I didn't know how to gift wrap a bathtub") and early stooging (Kerry grabbing a schoolboy for a nearfall while Jerry is on the mic insulting the ring girls) and Lawler playing "hide the chain" (with some assistance from Terry Garvin). This all gets a bit truncated, though, as they take that usual formula and then expand upon it. There's a lot of brawling on the outside, which Garvin gets caught in the middle of. Then we have a new take on the Lawler control segment, as he pulls an imaginary foreign object out of his tights and conceals in it his elbowpad, which he then uses as knux. Lawler goes to town on Kerry, but Kerry weathers the storm and is able to pull Lawler's legs out from under him while on the outside and attack his legs. Kerry makes his comeback, locking on an array of Claws, including the awesome abdominal claw where he lifts Lawler above his head while he has it on him. However, Tony Falk gets bumped, and Garvin tosses in his chair, allowing Lawler to blast Kerry with it a couple of times and score the win when Falk comes to. I'm thinking some people might balk at Garvin being as involved in the match as he is, but I thought this was as good as any match these two have had against each other, and a strong nomination. Chris Adams & Jimmy Jack Funk vs. P.Y. Chu-Hi & Sheikh Braddock Good little match. Jeff Jarrett vs. Billy Joe Travis (Guitar on a Pole Match) I'll be damned...it's a guitar on a pole match with Jeff Jarrett where the guitar is his opponent's gimmick. This is just a crazy brawl from the start, with Jarrett destroying Travis, and Travis eating some huge bumps, including a back body drop and a piledriver on the concrete, as well as a DDT on the announcer's table. And...the show ends. As does the disc. Well, fuck.
