Posted April 19, 201015 yr comment_5449673 Buddy Rose vs. The Destroyer - 7/18/81 - Early on, Rose plays chicken with D until Rose takes over after a quick chase. Rose is such a chickenshit. Destroyer takes control and controls mainly with punches and elbows. Looks pretty good so far. Pretty cool ending to the 1st fall as Rose attempts the big backbreaker, Destroyer blocks and counters with a piledriver. Rose kicks out so Destroyer unloads with a flury of punches until Rose stays down for the fall. For fall 2, Rose attacks Destroyer on the outside. Rose won’t let him back in the ring and attacks him every time he stands up. Love it. Love how the end pplays off the 1st fall. Rose gets the back breaker blocked again but with the damage to the back, Destroyer can’t hit the piledriver and Rose finally nails the back breaker for the pin. Fun fall. 3rd fall starts off awesome as Destroyer attacks Rose as he is coming to the ring!!! He busts him open on the ringpost, gets him inside and starts biting the forehead. LOVE IT! Destroyer attacks the cut! Buddy bails and gets counted out. Damn, that ended too abruptly but I liked too many things not to nominate it. Might get cut in the end but well worth watching! (Lynch 6)
August 10, 201015 yr comment_5454262 I thought this was a good solid bout but wasn't feeling it as a nomination.
April 14, 201114 yr comment_5469892 Buddy did a great job of working matches with guys he had just screwed over. I love his formula of stalling to avoid the aggrieved and then giving in to the guy's fury to set up the first fall. And props to Destroyer, who really conveyed his anger by pulling Buddy up at the two count and then killing him with punches. The second fall follow-up was perfect, with Buddy ambushing to gain the advantage he couldn't win fairly and refusing to let Destroyer get back to even terms in the ring. Then, Destroyer delivered more rage in the third fall, biting the cut and causing Buddy to chicken out for good. The ending was abrupt, but this was a great example of three-act, wrestling storytelling. Yes for me.
December 9, 201113 yr comment_5489991 I watched this bout and really underscored it. It's a real good match that deserves a nomination. Each fall told a story. Buddy was his usual great self. The Destroyer brought a lot to the table also. The ending kinda came out of nowhere though which would be a small complaint.
July 11, 201213 yr comment_5509979 First fall was solid enough but I was not in love with it at all other than the finishing run which I thought was unique and an interesting way to end an opening stanza. Certainly not bad stuff, but nothing that jumps off the page other than the last 90 seconds or so. Second fall starts off with a Buddy ambush before they even get to the ring and The Destroyer goes into peril mode as Buddy blows kisses to the crowd. Destroyer's back is targeted and Rose works it over fairly effectively. Rose ends up going for a backbreaker and Destroyer reverses again attempting a piledriver but can't get him up and this time Rose hits the backbreaker for the fall. I liked this better than the first fall, but it was similar in that it really was not anything special until the closing run. Third fall Destroyer takes his turn to ambush Rose and busts him open in the process. Then Rose just flees and the match is over. I agree that it told a pretty good story over three falls, but this feels like one of the weakest matches I've watched over the last couple of days. If this makes the set (and it looks like it probably will) I don't see it getting out of my bottom ten.
