Buddy Roberts vs. George Weingroff This was great. I love that Weingroff does a lot of chain wrestling in his matches to negate to disadvantages of his legal blindness. This had the best chain wrestling of any Weingroff match I've seen yet. The rolling short arm scissors was an especially nice touch. Roberts trying to...umm..."gate" Weingroff's disadvantages by constantly going after the eyes was really well done. Weingroff still manages to score the upset win, countering a bodyslam into an abdominal stretch pin. Falls a bit short of a nomination, but I really enjoyed it. Footage of Gino Hernandez winning the Texas Title Gino Hernandez Interview Gino wins the belt by means that no one seems to be quite clear about, and his poolside interview doesn't see him enlighten us any further on it. Jules Strongbow vs. Gino Hernandez This is the match from Romdam 33, only this time, they actually show...you know...the match, instead of just the pre-match Gino/Kerry brawl. This whole segment should go on as an extra, as not only is the brawl great, but Strongbow beats the hell out of Gino after Gino was tossing a bunch of chairs into the ring pre-match, and one of them caught Strongbow. Gino scores a flash pin and tosses a guy's hat off of his head on his way backstage, just because he can. Awesome. Kevin Von Erich & Chris Adams vs. Terry Gordy & Killer Khan Steve Regal vs. Mike Reed (JIP) Seen these. Steve Simpson vs. Steve Regal Solid bout. Before the match, Mike Von Erich steps in to introduce the doctor that saved his life and his family, including one of his daughters whose birthday was that day. Not exactly sleazy, but certainly awkward in hindsight. Michael Hayes Interview Seen it. Rick Rude vs. Mark Youngblood Really good match. I can't help but wish Youngblood got more of a spotlight than he did. Lance Von Erich & The Missing Link vs. Buddy Roberts & John Tatum Tatum says that Missy Hyatt couldn't make it tonight, but Sunshine says that half the people here told her that Missy was in the building, and Bill Mercer says on commentary that he actually spoke to Missy earlier in the evening. Tatum himself can't keep his stories straight, first saying that Missy was ill and then saying that she went shopping. For some reason, this particular Chekhov's Gun never goes off, but by the end of the match, you're so distracted by the awesome that you don't even really notice. Lance is typically solid but unspectacular, and Link is typically fun and wisely does most of the heavy lifting for his team. But the real stars are the heel team, as Buddy and Tatum are at their cowardly, weaselly best here. Oddly enough, they control most of the match, but they have a lot of fun with it. Tatum's falling tree sell after headbutting the Link was hilarious. His high-speed DiBiase bump after Link headbutted him later was great, too. Buddy ruled it, dropping bionic elbows off the ropes onto Link and then grabbing his own elbow in pain, and kicking at Sunshine at ringside. If the faces brought a bit more to the match, it would be an easy nomination, as it is, it was just an enjoyable aside.
