Terry Gordy vs. Chris Adams

This is 2 out of 3 with a 30 minute time limit. The guys went all out with some hard work. Both men did some solid mat wrestling. I thought the falls in the 1st and 2nd were great, and built on one another. This was worked kinda world title style. Gordy threw some kick ass punches, and they really meant something here. Their were some awkward moments but overall really good stuff from both wrestlers and a nomination.

Terry Gordy vs. Chris Adams Ft. Worth 11/12/83 (COMMERCIAL EDIT)

- Adams works on the headlock early on and him and Gordy are working it, keeping things moving. Better than Adams clinging to a sleeper. I like how Gordy tries for a sleeper only to get hooked by Adams. Finally, Gordy has enough of the arm work and punches Adams in the face to break the hold. Gordy controls with a bearhug and the match slows down but at least Adams is showing a sign of struggle vs. just laying there like Youngblood stuck in Sawyer’s bearhug. Adams finally breaks but before he can make the comeback, he gets struck with the lariat and that ends that.

- 2nd fall, Gordy takes control early on as it should be. However, just like Gordy laid Adams out with the flash lariat, Adams hits the superkick out of nowhere which Gordy bumps big for and he grabs the 2nd fall.

- 3rd fall, right away, it looks like Adams was going for a crab but Gordy was blocking so Adams changes it to a slingshot. Nice sequence later where Gordy grabs the ropes to escape a superkick, only to play to the crowd, turns around and gets nailed in the chest with the kick forcing him outside. Both guys battle and Gordy gets his leg grabbed but doesn’t attempt the enziguiri. When it happens to Adams, he blasts Gordy in the head. Good stuff. Nice stretch run of close counts and big moves but it ends in a tv draw. What an awesome match. This goes high on the list. STRONG NOMINATION!

There were times where it felt like the day would never come, but after over two years, here it is - the finish line. And I could think of few more appropriate matches to take me home. Going into this project, World Class seemed to have this reputation as a really influential territory that made a ton of money at points and had some classic feuds and angles, but wasn't really regarded for it's large body of great matches. At best, it seemed to get brushed off as "more fun than good" by a lot of people, and the only two regulars who had any kind of "great worker" reputations at all in the company were Terry Gordy and (to a lesser extent) Chris Adams. Well, two-plus years later, we found a shit-ton more great workers and great matches than had previously been acknowledged, but Gordy and Adams certainly didn't drop in standing. But one thing I did notice - though not everyone agreed with me - was that as good as Gordy and Adams were, their matches against each other were consistent disappointments. They weren't bad, but when Terry Gordy wrestles Chris Adams, I kinda expect more than was I was getting.

Here, at the end of the road, I finally got it. This was the match I always knew they had in them, and while I don't think it ranks quite as highly as Will is putting it, I definitely support it as a nomination. The super 70's build of the match with them working basic holds early was great. When they cut loose, they really cut loose. Both guys threw some bombs. Gordy had the awesome lariats, backdrops, and the great fat man crossbody in the first fall. Adams' kicks looked great as always, and Gordy ate all of his offense like a champ. After the great job they did building tension and drama throughout the match, I couldn't help but be let down a bit by the non-finish. But hey, it's World Class. Non-finishes happen. And at least it led to the finish of something. This match moves forward, and so do I.
