Posted April 30, 201015 yr comment_5450264 06. Buddy Rose & Dynamite Kid vs. Curt Hennig & Billy Jack Haynes – 6/11/83 - Early on, I thought that DK & Hennig was much more interesting than DK-TM. DK & Rose take turns punishing Hennig throughout the fall. Haynes comes in and looks good against Dynamite. However, DK nails him with a missile dropkick and follows it up with a piledriver to take the 1st fall. 2nd fall and DK puts Haynes in the headlock. A little boring but not a deal breaker. Rose tags in and he continues the headlockery. Things pick up with the heels dishing out more pain on Billy Jack. Haynes plays FIP , and in one hope spot, picks up Rose on his shoulders, carries him to the corner but the ref was distracted and even though he got the pin, the ref doesn’t allow it. Good stuff there. Hennig gets the tag finally, hits a big missile dropkick on Rose and scores the pin for the 2nd fall. 3rd fall, Hennig is feeling good and works Rose over with a leg scissors and then a headlock. Rose and Hennig working is much more interesting than the DK-Hennig spots. Oops, spoke too soon, DK tags in and gets the Hennig headlock. Nice ending as Haynes and Rose get tagged in. Haynes does a reverse muscle buster to set up a full nelson. Rose escapes and holds Haynes for a DK missile but Dk hits Rose instead and Haynes gets the pin. I like how all three falls play on the same theme. There were good parts in all 3 falls with some lulls in action as well that bring it down a bit. After the match, DK and Rose fight, Oliver and Assassin come in and Rose thinks they are going to help them. Instead, they all attack Rose and Rose is busted open. I’ll nominate the match but the lead in to the face turn has to be on the set! If not the entire match then as an EXTRA. LYNCH VOL. 9
August 23, 201015 yr comment_5454882 I'd give this a nomination. The story of the beginning of the face turn was done well. The finish of the 3rd fall was really well done. Haynes FIP role was underwhelming but his set up to the full nelson was great and made you believe it as a painful finish. The angle at the cemented this for me as a nomination.
May 12, 201114 yr comment_5471072 I'm on the fence with this one. DK's dropkick/tombstone combo to end the first fall looked nasty, and Billy Jack wasn't as bad a face-in-peril as I would have expected. But the match didn't exactly have me charged up going into the third fall. Of course, the ending was the key to the whole thing, and they executed it well. On a smaller set, like this, I guess it's fine to put on a match because because it contained an important, well-done angle. So that's a luke-warm yes.
July 14, 201213 yr comment_5510126 The first fall has my seal of approval as their are three massive back body drop bumps in the first ninety seconds or so. Curt and DK had good chemistry together, but Curt was already a machine at this point and could really keep pace with DK on the fast spots, but would also bump and sell the fuck out of his suplex, punches, elbows, et. Curt's sunset flip hope spot getting broken up with a stomp from Dynamite leading to a Buddy taunt to the camera was some great shit. Hennig gets the hot tag off of a suplex and Billy Jack comes in as a beast. DK ends up coming back and hitting a sick missle drop kick followed by a kip up and a sick tombstone for the fall. Second fall did not exactly light the world on fire at first though I did like the Billy Jack hope spots. The heat section is getting the reaction from the crowd and is solid, but is not high end by Portland standards despite Kid bringing a couple of nice offensive spots. I did really love the spot with the missed tag and Buddy snapping him over the top for DK to hit a huge knee to his head. Hennig gets the hot tag and runs through Rose in quick order finishing him off with a great diving dropkick. Over all a solid if not great fall. Hennig works a head scissors early in the third fall an they do some cool shit out of it including a great Buddy reversal out of it, with Hennig decking him down and switching over to a headlock. Really loved the finish with Buddy coming in and getting caught by Billy Jack and locked in the full nelson. DK helps him escape but confusion reigns and DK murders Buddy with a missle dropkick on accident causing him to lose. Obviously the post-match is an EXTRA, but I thought this was a fairly Solid nomination without it.
