I don't think Braun is overpushed at all. I would have voted Bray Wyatt. But I think the logic in selecting him is not so much that he's awful, but in the continued frustration toward WWE's lack of a level playing field, where even if he wasn't any good, he would get numerous chances to get over because of his size, where someone smaller who didn't have a push work out once would really struggle to get the opportunity again.

Looks are a really important part of wrestling, especially in the "looking like a person who can beat someone up" department. If I can buy that you can hurt someone, you won't actually need to hurt someone for me to buy it.

NXT has gotten to the point where the male wrestlers who were signed for their appearance/size stick out in the land of flippy guys under 5'10.

You have to moderate it some though. Too many guys of any size/look/style ruins the effect of it.

Wrestling can't really be fair unless everyone is 50/50.

That's what he opened himself up for when he gave out the 6. Now if he ever likes a match better than this 60-minute draw (likely Omega-Okada 3) it has to be another new step up. I wasn't negative on the 6 star rating at the time, but now it looks like it's going to get too silly.

Initially I could understand the idea behind a 6 star match, to convey that he thought 1/4/17 (and 6/3/94 which he bumped up later) were a cut above the other matches he has at 5 stars. But the 6 1/4 rating sort of negates the 5 star scale system. By that logic he can have 5 3/4 stars and 7 1/2 stars matches and the usual rating scale is rendered irrelevant and ratings become completely arbitrary .

I think you guys are putting more thought into this than Dave has.

This. He just wanted a rating to say it was a little better than the Dome match, don't think about what it means about how much better he thinks it is than other 5 star matches or if you could have a *****1/2 star match or whatever

Except now the scale is worthless. What does a ***** match even means, since you can give whatever snowflakes you want basically ? ******1/4 on what scale ? Seven ? Six and a half ? It's just stupid. And yes, Meltz officialy made his own system look like a joke (I'd say, again, but at least the 6 stars felt like, okay, this is a very special case) and himself as a complete parody as far as evaluating a match goes.

He manages to take himself pretty seriously. Imagine writing wrestling reviews for decades and becoming a trusted opinion leader on the topic then pissing it away for Twitter reactions and fanboying movez though. He may as well just join Reddit.

The six-star thing was clearly, to me, Dave's way of saying that the Dome match transcended even what he normally sees as a five-star match. To me, what that says is that he gives too many matches five stars, but you only live once, and the ratings are his, not mine. It was a five-star match and this is a five-star match for ratings purposes. It's a poorly thought out way to phrase how great he thinks this series is, but I do think it was meant to be figurative.
