March 21, 20187 yr comment_5836858 I really can't stand Prichard. He's insightful at times but he's just an obnoxious ass more often than not.
March 21, 20187 yr comment_5836959 Considering how Meltzer reported on the issue and how pretty much nothing came of that except JBL being wrongfully (in this case, at least) called a bully, I'd be pissed off too.

Was it wrongfully though? Clearly something happened to cause Mauro to leave, and at the very least JBL was being an ass about if not being the direct cause. Just because Mauro did a tweet upon his return clearly meant to squash any heat, people dogpiled on that as proof Dave was wrong or worked.
March 22, 20187 yr comment_5836968 The thing is: the maximum we had of JBL "bullying" Mauro was that clip on Bring it to the Table which really wasn't anything anyone should bat an eye. The rest was just people citing previous cases of JBL being a dick, but not a single thing, a single rumour about what he could have done to Mauro. I get that Mauro has had some personal issues in the past, some that even caused him to miss some SD days, but the dogpiling in this case was just.... baffling.
March 22, 20187 yr comment_5836991 as Wrestling Journalists go I find Meltzer more bearable than Apter because how Apater covers Wrestling and how people do not call out him on hos real Bias while Meltzer's non-bias is constantly called bias

(Maybe he did in his earliest days covering boxing? Not sure about that.) So you can't judge them by the same standards.

I also dont think theres such a thing as unbiased journalism. Which is fine as long as people try to understand all sides of what theyre covering and are up front about their own positions.

So you can't judge them by the same standards. why was he up on the WON HOF then and people hold PWI 500 highly fan wise Because the PWI 500 is fun. It's fun to go in the back and see the random indy guys back there. And there's a certain touch of nostalgia to it. We all remember those bottom 50 guys like the Japanese Pool Boy or Mr. Oh-la-la. He's an essential part of wrestling history and that's why he's in the WON HoF. But he's a kayfabe journalist. The Apter mags are about presenting wrestling in a magazine in kayfabe. Apter could be argued to be a wrestling historian but he's never pretended to be a journalist.
March 22, 20187 yr comment_5837073 He should be if he isn't. I also enjoy his appearances on various shows. He's a lot of fun.
March 22, 20187 yr comment_5837076 Bill Apter is not, in fact, in the WON HOF. he was on the list to be
March 22, 20187 yr comment_5837080 He was a candidate for the HOF as a contributor, yes, but that has nothing to do with his status as an actual journalist. Gene Okerlund did interviews on TV. Does that mean we'd compare him to Mike Wallace? Apter is a character in the extended wrestlng world, and I don't imagine he'd claim to be anything else.

March 23, 20187 yr comment_5837180 Mike Lano is in the HOF for Most Times His Giant Stuffed-Into-Sweatpants Ass Has Blocked My View at an Indy Show.
March 23, 20187 yr comment_5837209 The PWI 500 was a great way to gauge general interest in talent contrasted with their push and market penetration.
March 23, 20187 yr comment_5837228 The latest Observer contains a rather bizarre assertion. Dave claims that ALS is so closely identified with Lou Gehrig that virtually nobody knows the disease's technical name. I find that rather unlikely. After all, it's not called the Lou Gehrig's Disease Ice Bucket Challenge. It can't even be attributed to Dave being too deep in the wrestling bubble to be aware of it because he participated in it.
March 23, 20187 yr Author comment_5837232 Calling it ALS is a fairly recent shift, isn't it? I could see that being a generational difference.
March 23, 20187 yr comment_5837235 It is. For most of my life it was called Lou Gherig's Disease. Like you said, ALS as a term is relatively "new".
March 23, 20187 yr comment_5837243 Could the average person tell you what it stands for though? My sister in law died from the disease and I still have to look it up.
March 24, 20187 yr comment_5837278 Could the average person tell you what it stands for though? My sister in law died from the disease and I still have to look it up. I think that's what Dave was referring to actually.
March 24, 20187 yr comment_5837299 ALS is a generational shift from Lou Gherig's - as I assume that is not a name most are now familiar with. Lou Gherig's Disease was a literal naming from an early 20th Century baseball player as it was through him that it first really came to prominence.
