Posted May 14, 201015 yr comment_5450835 taped 7.1.89) 4 - Ricky Fuyuki vs. Shunji Takano - They traded fairly dull legwork early, but things picked up with a Takano knee off the apron followed by a huge lariat on the floor. Fuyuki did a nice job of remembering to sell the leg, even when he rallied. But his roll-up win felt arbitrary and unrelated to the body of the match. Between that and the boring first half, this deserves no further attention. (taped 4.16.89) 5 - Masa Fuchi vs. Shinichi Nakano (PWF Jr. Title) - This consisted mostly of Fuchi stretching the shit out of Nakano, which I can get behind. But Nakano did nothing to suggest that he was a live underdog and that made his upset win, which was supposed to come off as a big moment for him, feel cheap. No vote. (taped 5.13.89) 6 - Jumbo Tsuruta/Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Dan Spivey/Dick Slater (PWF/International Tag Titles) - Spivey was perhaps the only guy I've seen who treated Jumbo like a little dude, which was kind of awesome. Of course, he also dragged the match down with some sloppy moments. Slater threw nifty punches and still retained his good chemistry with Jumbo. But overall, the match didn't go far enough with anything to stand out.
September 16, 201015 yr comment_5455777 Ricky Fuyuki vs. Shunji Takano (7/1/89) This was okay nothing special. AJPW World Jr. Heavyweight Title: Masa Fuchi © vs. Shinichi Nakano (4/16/89) There is some pretty good wrestling going on here with Fuchi really putting on a clinic on the mat with Nakano and dominates most of the match with Nakano getting some offense here and there. The fans are into him here but Fuchi pretty much treats him like a job guy at times and the fans boo Fuchi in Korakuen again which is becoming a theme. Nakano would get the win a German Suplex hold but it came off like a total fluke because the way that Fuchi treated him throughout the match although Korakuen was loving it. Fun for what it was but not a nomination. AJPW World Tag Titles: Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu © vs. "Mr. Unpredictable" Dick Slater & "Dangerous" Danny Spivey (5/13/89) Great to see Slater back and he is fun here working well with the champs especially Jumbo who he has a good history with and threw some great punches here. Spivey was okay but was clunky at times but it says something about how high they were on him that Slater did the job here. Spivey would become really good later on but at this time he wasn't there yet and this match was just okay.
