I was shocked when Abby had Davey up in a choke and Dynamite dropkicked his partner onto Abby for the pin. Abby almost never lost clean in Japan. Despite those points of interest, this didn't excite me enough to make me consider a nomination. 2- Doug Furnas & Dan Kroffat vs. Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu (Real World Tag League match, 18:01, 11/29/89) - Furnas appeared to tweak his knee while botching his cocky backflip, but this still turned into a pretty good match. The smaller team couldn't do much with Jumbo but made some hay by working on Yatsu's head (he still had the funky headgear going.) I dug Yatsu fighting his way out of trouble with headbutts on Furnas. The action got really hot after that with Jumbo even eating some big double team moves. Then, he did one of those great Jumbo endings, where he just hurled Kroffat to the mat, then spiked him with the backdrop suplex. I wouldn't call it a high-end performance from either team, but the finishing run was exciting enough that I'll throw it on the block. 3- Stan Hansen & Genichiro Tenryu vs. Giant Baba & Rusher Kimura (Real World Tag League match, 20:14, 11/29/89) - Already watched and nominated elsewhere.
September 18, 201015 yr comment_5455901 Real World Tag League: The British Bulldogs (Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith) vs. Abdullah the Butcher & Tiger Jeet Singh (11/29/89) This was a brawl at the bell with the highlight being DK giving Abby a monkey flip on the floor. Awesome. This wasn't much of anything except when Abby & DK were at battle where Abby was headbutting DK so hard it busted him open hardway on the side of the head. The heels would work over the cut until DK finally got the tag to Davey and he teed off on Abby until the heels started working on him. Abby would get Davey up for a choke until DK came in and dropkicked Davey who fell on Abby getting a clean pin which yes was extremely rare in Japan. Akira Fukuzawa was going nuts on commentary as they brawled after the match and I wish this was a little longer or it could've been a nomination. We do need to get this on as an extra for the DK/Abby stuff. Real World Tag League: Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. The Can-Am Express (Doug Furnas & Dan Kroffat) (11/29/89) Yatsu still is wearing the headgear here but this is like a dream matchup here. Furnas hit his dropkick on Jumbo then tried his backflip afterwards but his left knee landed on the bottom rope which looked like it hurt although he still landed his bullrush on Jumbo. Yatsu would come in and they would actually work on his head which was good but when Jumbo comes in the mood changes as they don't get much offense on him. There was a botch here that was pretty bad in that Kroffat was supposed to wait for a tag by Furnas before he hit a cross body block on Yatsu but he went ahead and jumped anyway as Furnas was in the corner going for the tag. The referee just let it go and then Jumbo would come in to kill Kroffat with a high knee then giving Furnas one as well. The natives then worked over Kroffat good getting some nearfalls until Furnas makes some saves then gets the tag. Furnas cleans house press slamming Yatsu like he was Dynamite Kid then they worked him over with double team moves setting up a fun stretch run which ended up Jumbo drilling Kroffat with a backdrop driver. This was a solid match and moves forward. Real World Tag League: Stan "The Lariat" Hansen & Genichiro Tenryu vs. Giant Baba & Rusher Kimura (11/29/89) This was awesome as Baba was walking to the ring and Tenryu just launched himself with a tope suicida putting Baba in the railing. Rusher then went to war knowing it was just him for the moment and he brought it to his opponents but they ended up just beating his ass. The crowd was firmly behind him as Baba was being attended to on the floor but the heels were just too tough for him and they forced him to juice heavily. Baba would make it to the apron and the fans are going nuts wanting Rusher to get the tag which he would finally do. Tenryu was such a dick here but Baba would make his ass pay with some hard chops and a big boot then Hansen would get the same as the fans are apeshit. Baba is on fire here for quite a while until he would get the 2-on-1 treatment like Rusher did because Rusher was on the floor trying to regroup. They worked over Baba's injured ribs relentlessly and the stiff chops were awesome but not as awesome as Baba getting the big boot on a running Tenryu. Baba was so great here coming back when he needed to such as getting the backdrop suplex on Tenryu as he was going for his reverse elbow off the middle rope. Rusher would return from the abyss tripping up Hansen as he was going for a lariat so when Hansen got up he laid him out with a lariat for his trouble. Baba catching Tenryu again running with a big boot then moving out of the way then backdropping Hansen over the ropes as he was going for a lariat was great. Tenryu then went for a powerbomb but Baba fell on him the first time so Tenryu tried again and this time he succeeded getting the huge pin over Baba. God fucking damn was this awesome and I think that this match will be one of the biggest favorites on the set as you had everything going on here that is great about wrestling. Grand slam nomination.
