Posted May 17, 201015 yr comment_5450956 Hansen bloodied Tenryu with a belt shot in the aisle before the match even started (actually, a perverse sign of respect from the Hansen character). Then, he swarmed his wounded foe as only he could. The highlight was a shoulder block that sent Tenryu off the apron and over the guard rail. Stan had the western lariat all lined up, but Tenryu caught him with a knee to the crotch to get himself some room, finally. He followed with nasty work to Hansen's midsection. The end run was pretty exciting. Tenryu hit Hansen with five straight enzuigiris and a power bomb, but he was beaten up enough that he couldn't nail his big stuff crisply. So Hansen survived and as Tenryu climbed to the top rope, Stan stumbled over and hit one of his upside-the-head lariats (kind of like the famous one on Kobashi in '93). That knocked Tenryu halfway down the aisle, and he was too battered to beat the count. This was a wild, dramatic match between two of the stars of the set and thus, a no-doubt nomination. It's one of the best examples I've seen of Hansen playing the horror movie monster who just never stops coming. That last lariat was akin to the end of a Friday the 13th movie where the heroine seems safe only for Jason to pop out of the lake in the final frame. It will be an interesting challenge to rank the three matches from their '88 series. GH Hansen Comp Disc 14
September 17, 201015 yr comment_5455827 Genichiro Tenryu vs. Stan Hansen (7/27/88) - Oh shit, Hansen busts Tenryu open before he can even reach the ring. Fuck, this is brutal to watch. Hansen is KILLING Tenryu. Seriously, loving this shit. Everytime Tenryu fights back, every time he escapes a move… it feels like a HUGE momentum shift. Blood, violence, human spirit, determination, sadistic fucks… and a HOLY FUCK LARIAT!!!! Fuck this… HUGE NOMINATION.
