Some corporate teams are well managed and some are poorly managed. Some individually owned teams are well managed and some are poorly managed. The big difference is on a league level. It used to be much, much easier for owners to get together and get something done. Nowadays corporate structures are loathe to mess with the operations of baseball unless it involves something regarding a television deal or other profit venture.

I think the rosters are as good as we can reasonably expect without scrapping voting entirely and just handing the job to a sub-committee of SABR. And that would tick a lot of people off. Hafner was in a tight group of DHs that included Jim Thome and David Ortiz. I voted for him, but I'm not upset by his ommission. An All-star team really needs to carry at least one first baseman who can play defense.
