Great Kabuki/Takashi Ishikawa vs. Genichiro Tenryu/Samson Fuyuki (12:51/19:10)

This was a real fun tag and the time flew by. Kabuki and Ishikawa work over Fuyuki’s arm for a bit, until he makes the huge hot tag out to Tenryu who cleans house on everybody. Kabuki bumps real good for Tenryu, then Fuyuki tags back in to hit a massive lariat on Ishikawa, still selling his arm. Eventually Fuyuki tries too much and goes for a crossbody off the top, and Kabuki awesomely punches him out of the sky (LOVE Kabuki’s uppercuts and body punches in this match) and then we go into a big schmozz ending of people taking lariats and breaking up pinfalls and I leave a happy man. Maybe not QUITE to nomination level, but a borderline pick. Worth a second viewing for sure.

They kept to a simple, but effective structure with Fuyuki getting his ass kicked most of the way and Tenryu busting in like a crazy man when he finally got the tag. Kabuki's uppercuts were sweet as always, though he missed his mark slightly on the one that was supposed to catch Fuyuki coming off the top. On the downside, this was missing six minutes from the beginning, and the crowd didn't seem to give much of a shit if Fuyuki died without ever tagging. Would Ricky Morton have been Ricky Morton if the fans didn't care about his plight? I liked this, but the flaws were enough to cost it a vote, given the level of competition.

Great Kabuki/Takashi Ishikawa vs. Genichiro Tenryu/Samson Fuyuki (12:51 of 19:10 aired) 7/10/88 (taped 7/8/88 )

- I really like the focus on Fuyuki’s arm. That is the type of work I mark out for and made me enjoy the Miz match from last night. Mix in Kabuki’s thrust kicks and I am sold. Damn, they are killing that arm. Nice tag to Tenryu leads to a SICK lariat on Ishikawa. I love Fuyuki’s lariat and immediate realization that he shouldn’t have done that with all the damage he sustained. Nice stretch run with the right ending and I can back the nomination even with the missing footage. It would have been nice to get a complete match but I think this should go on.
