Posted May 25, 201015 yr comment_5451242 This turned into a hell of a match with the most violent version of the Bulldogs I've ever seen. I was shocked at the degree to which they manhandled Tenryu. Davey press-slammed him into the first row, and Dynamite busted his chin open hardway with a flurry of vicious forearms in the corner. The Bulldogs then worked over the chin cut, which was badass. The end sequence ruled it as well. Tenryu hit an enzuigiri on Dynamite, but Davey picked up his staggering partner and hurled him into Tenryu for a nearfall. Then Dynamite missed his super headbutt, giving Tenryu enough of an opening for a quick, sharp lariat to end it. I enjoyed the Bulldogs as straight asskickers and Tenryu as the guy who had to gut his way through a terrible beating. Nomination. 1989 All Japan TV Disc 3
June 21, 201015 yr comment_5452209 Genichiro Tenryu & Samson Fuyuki vs Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith, AJ TV 2/5/89 (TV 3) - Early on, the Bulldogs manhandle Fuyuki so Tenryu tags in and gets more of the same including a nasty press slam on a table outside. Back inside, the Bulldogs continue the onslaught on Tenryu but he tags out shortly after a spike piledriver. Ugh, not feeling the Bulldogs including the nerve hold as part of their arsenal. I also don’t buy DK using a bearhug. The ending was pretty hot but it is very similar to other average matches with a nice stretch run. Nice lariat by Tenryu to keep DK down as Fuyuki hits a German on Bulldog. I don’t know how Childs can criticize the North-South matches in one hand and praise this in the other. The natives are getting dominated but the North-South tags had so much better shtick going on and better tag work and focus than this as well. I don’t mind some stiff Bulldog work but nothing I have seen in this match so far says it would be a contender for Best of the 80s. No vote.
October 14, 201014 yr comment_5457202 Ricky Fuyuki & Genichiro Tenryu vs. The British Bulldogs (Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith) (1/25/89) Bulldogs really work over Revolution here especially Tenryu who they really dominate for a while which was highly interesting. Davey press slamming Tenryu on the ringside table was a great spot that the crowd popped big for. This really felt like a squash match for a long time even with some blood from Tenryu before they finally fight back which didn't last long though before the Bulldogs regained control after Davey pressed DK onto Tenryu. Tenryu would eventually catch DK with a lariat to get the win which seemed like desperation. Man I really wanted to like this match due to the blood but Revolution took too much of a beating here for my taste. Not a nomination.
