Posted May 26, 201015 yr comment_5451306 All Japan Pro Wrestling (April 2 & April 19 1989) 1. Mitsuo Momota vs Masa Fuchi - Reviewed on Classics, where it was listed as happening on 6/5. 2. Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu vs Toshiaki Kawada & Ricky Fuyuki - JIP with Kawada already bleeding badly and Jumbo driving his forearm into the cut. This was pretty great while it lasted. Jumbo and Yatsu just abused the smaller team. While Yatsu inflicted punishment in the ring, Jumbo would take the other Footloose member into the crowd and kick his ass there. The whole thing carried a wild, violent feel and the crowd came unhinged when Fuyuki and Kawada managed brief rallies. You guys might decide there isn't enough here to merit inclusion, but it's at least worth a look. 3. Stan Hansen vs Genichiro Tenryu - I never thought these guys would have a boring match but fuck, this was it. The borrowed a formula from their '88 series, with Hansen hitting an early lariat and refusing to give Tenryu space to rally for more than 10 minutes, The problem was, Stan spent a lot of the time in front-face and chin locks. He did produce one awesome cutoff spot, running across the ring to hit a lunging lariat that sent Tenryu to the floor and over the railing. Tenryu's eventual rally was OK, but then Hansen just kind of fell on him during an attempted powerbomb for a weak-looking pin. This was so sluggish and heatless compared to their stuff from the previous year. No vote. 4, Abullah the Butcher & Joel Deaton vs Dustin Rhodes & Terry Gordy - JIP. Weird match-ups and we never got an extended run of Gordy vs. Abby, which they teased for a lot of the match. Dustin bled a lot, but this wasn't a standout. 5. Stan Hansen & Genichro Tenryu vs Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu - This was another snoozer from teams that were capable of so much more. They just meandered along in second gear. Bah!
