Posted May 26, 201015 yr comment_5451315 John Tenta/Isao Takagi vs. Genichiro Tenryu/Ashura Hara (5:43) Damn this was awesome. Four sumo guys in the ring just slapping the crap our of each other. Yeah, it only goes 6 minutes, but who cares!? The lariat Hara gives Takagi is worth the price of admission right here. Tenta hits a giant powerslam. Tenryu irish whips Hara into the corner where Hara delivers the nastiest corner splash on Takagi that I have ever seen. Final run sees Tenryu/Hara giving a fierce beating to Takagi, only for Tenta to break up a few pinfalls, so Hara calmly waits until Tenta gets back to the apron…then runs over and boots him right off! Tenryu with the big powerbomb, done. This was tons of fun, and I’m gonna nominate it just so the others check it out. This is the best possible Worldwide match. When this is all done we can make a comp of “6 minute matches that Eric Nominated that everybody else hated.” NOMINATE! (AJ TV 10/31/87 Special & 11/7/87, DVD #24)
July 16, 201015 yr comment_5453190 I really enjoyed some moments in this -- Tenta's big-guy offense, Hara's vicious splash/lariat into the corner that made the announcer giggle in shock. And I actually admired the fact that they didn't drag on. Really, Takagi should've been ripe for the fall after the shots he took. But it's a conundrum because part of me feels that matches this short should be holy shit, Hash/Zangiev great to make a set. And this didn't hit that kind of high. I'll go a tentative yes but won't be the one to save it if Will says nea.
September 21, 201015 yr comment_5456057 John Tenta/Isao Takagi vs. Genichiro Tenryu/Ashura Hara, 10/31/87 (TV24) - I liked this match for the short amount of time it was on but it was criminally short. The enziguiri-backdrop driver combo was cool. Nice TV match but not a nomination for best of the 80s. This will be thrown on Eric's Extras.
