Posted May 28, 201015 yr comment_5451365 2 out of 3 falls: The Midnight Express ("Loverboy" Dennis Condrey & "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton) vs. Brian Adias & Sweet Brown Sugar (5/20/85) Now this is more like it when it comes to MX matches as they are able to work their style here as the action went back and forth at a fast pace with everyone being crisp in their moves. MX was awesome of course working together as a team but so was Adias & Sugar and it proved to me that Adias was at his best teaming with black guys (Iceman & Sugar). I loved the headscissors work by Sugar and especially Condrey who had a great way of getting a grounded headscissors. The faces took the first fall as Adias got Eaton with a sunset flip that Eaton went down for the mat for like a fuckin champ. Adias started the second fall strong with a sleeper on Condrey but the MX would take over with Adias fighting away before getting the tag to Sugar who cleans house on Condrey before Eaton would run in with a knee to the back. Again the faces stay strong even getting a double dropkick on Eaton but the constant doubleteams take a toll and Condrey finishes off Adias with a modified belly-to-belly suplex to take the second fall. Third fall features MX bumping and selling a good bit before Adias gets thrown to the floor really hard allowing the MX to work him over but Adias would get a sunset flip nearfall before getting the hot tag to Sugar setting off the 4-way brawl. Then we had a great finish as Sugar leapfrogged over Condrey only to eat a flying clothesline by Eaton to end the match. This was a pretty damn solid match and a very easy nomination.
June 14, 201015 yr comment_5451977 Midnight Express vs. Brian Adias & Skip Young 5/20/85 (McAdam 2149 Disc 3) - This deserves credit for the Express making Adias and Young look interesting in a match. Young looked good and the early segment of the match was largely carried by him working with the Midnights. Once the Midnights take over, Young is your FIP and fall #1 is over abruptly when Adias gets a sunset flip for the pin. - 2nd fall, Adias works his headlock which is almost always a negative. Shit get Skip Young back in there. Adias sucks man. Skip cleans house but tags Adias back in and is eventually pinned after a Condrey belly to belly. Wasn’t expecting a belly-to-belly. That 2nd fall brought the match down, man. - OK, Skip starts Fall 3, and I am feeling better about this match. Midnights dominate the 3rd fall and Skip Young doesn’t see the tag and gets pinned after a Bobby Eaton clothesline that you could tell they wanted to look cool but it just didn’t connect right. - I have mixed feelings on this match. On one hand, the Midnights were doing their thing and Skip Young was energetic but if it was a choice between this match and the Bugsy McGraw match, I would choose the Bugsy match. I have seen tons of better Midnight matches and I don’t think Young and Adias are the opponents to give us a memorable outing. Besides Condrey’s belly to belly and the awkward finish of the third fall, what was really memorable about this match or not done better in 20 other 2/3 falls?
June 26, 201015 yr comment_5452406 Again, I find myself between the two of you, and with the end nigh, it makes calling this one tricky. Agreed with Will that the second fall dragged, and there were a handful of awkward moments, but what was good here was more than good enough to keep me interested. This would be a low-level nomination in my book, and if Kris wanted to go to the wall for this, I'd back his play. Otherwise, it doesn't make the cut.
