No DQ Match w/Gino in a cage above the ring: Kevin Von Erich vs. "Gentleman" Chris Adams (9/2/85)

 

FUCKING GINO is rocking it in a suit that would make Ric Flair jealous. The story here is that Kevin isn't at his best level because he has been at the hospital with Mike for the past few nights. These two had some memorable singles matches at the end of 1984 but this one is different because those matches were still early in the feud where in this one you had a feud that was at close to a year long with so much hatred between the two plus you throw in Gino inside the cage and the No DQ stip allowing both men to throw away the rules. Both men just take it to each other and it would end with Gino throwing down the knux he used from earlier but Kevin would steal them and used them on Adams to win this match. Kevin would then strip Gino down after the match after the cage was lowered and then they locked him in the cage so they could cut his hair but Kerry would run out to make the save. This was great stuff and a slam dunk nomination.

- Gino is pissed and takes his sweet time getting in the cage. I think that they should have forced Kerry in a cage as well. Early on, they reserve the brawling but Kevin hooks in a body scissors and they do some nice work in and out of the scissors. To break it, Adams just punches KEv in the face repeatedly. Nice. Adams is playing it nasty while Kevin was playing nice early on. However, Kevin escapes a piledriver attempt in a sweet spot and then he gets mean as well. Awesome spot as Adams is choking Kevin with some wire but Kevin hooks the claw in while outside the ring and carries the claw into the ring. Big back and forth stretch run with the ref getting knocked out, Adams grabbing the brass knux, losing them and getting knocked out for the Kevin win. Great match, easy nomination.

Not much more to say here. Another great match from one of the best feuds in wrestling history. This moves forward.
