Posted May 31, 201015 yr comment_5451477 This was a good response to their earlier match in which Jumbo and Yatsu just mauled Footloose. They started out roughing them up again, but Kawada and Fuyuki got after Yatsu's leg and that proved to be the key twist. After they worked Yatsu over, Jumbo couldn't trust his partner to control the smaller guys when he needed a rest. So Kawada and Fuyuki were able to gang up on the big guy and throw everything they had (kicks, suplexes, chair shots) at his back. Fuyuki popped the crowd with some great roll-up near falls, and Kawada was awesome from the apron, running in to kick Yatsu in the face and even tossing a chair at him from the floor. Ultimately, Kawada overshot Jumbo on a lariat and took out his partner, leaving Jumbo the small opening he needed to catch Fuyuki with a game-ending backdrop suplex. The match was neat in that it showed how much Footloose had learned from their earlier loss. But it also showed that they couldn't afford even one slip-up against the promotion's top team. Nomination, though it wasn't super high-end stuff in the context of such a great year. 1989 All Japan TV Disc 11
September 16, 201015 yr comment_5455799 Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Toshiaki Kawada & Ricky Fuyuki, AJ TV 5/21/89 (TV11) - Really solid early on with Footloose tagging in and out and keeping Jumbo and Yatsu grounded. What a huge difference from the last match where Footloose works like a well-oiled machine and punish Jumbo non-stop with double teams and team work. Man, Footloose taking so much of the match really threw me for a loop and I find myself marking out more than an objective eye should. It still ends with Jumbo taking the fall but I liked this enough to push it through.
October 15, 201014 yr comment_5457235 Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Footloose (Ricky Fuyuki & Toshiaki Kawada) (5/20/89) Well let's see if this is as good as their Korakuen match. Footloose is now prepared for what Jumbo & Yatsu are going to do so they are on their A-game here working over the big guys after an early run. Yatsu wasn't the only one to get worked over as Jumbo took some punishment as well which was fun and it seemed like Footloose really enjoyed getting to shine on him. It was really fun seeing the Olympic heroes playing the underdogs here getting hope spots against Footloose of all teams. It would take a miscommunication spot to lead to Jumbo getting a backdrop driver on Fuyuki to get the win ending this fun match. Yeah this moves forward easily but I could only imagine how great it would've been at Korakuen.
