Posted May 31, 201015 yr comment_5451479 The Bulldogs neutralized Jumbo by working over his arm, and Yatsu actually carried more of the offense for his side. I liked how the Bulldogs kept using Dynamite's head as a weapon. But that proved to be their undoing when Jumbo whipped Davey into his partner's noggin and capitalized with a quick roll-up. They picked an interesting approach that played on Jumbo's selling and resourcefulness rather than his offensive dominance. I won't go to the wall for it but found it intriguing enough that Eric should take a look. 1989 All-Japan TV Disc 11
September 16, 201015 yr comment_5455800 Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith vs. Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu, 5/24/89 (TV11) - Bulldogs are looking good early on, good teamwork in keeping Jumbo controlled on the ground. I know DK was supposed to be a shell of his former self at this point but he was still a grumpy bastard at this point and I am enjoying the Brits beating up on the natives. I really like the way DK is focusing on Jumbo’s arm. Seriously, some of the offense on the arm looks nasty. Davey Boy looks perfectly acceptable as well. The ending was abrupt with little in the way of a hot finish but at least it was clean. I enjoyed this and have no problem pushing it through. Nomination.
September 17, 201015 yr comment_5455802 AJPW World Tag Titles: Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu © vs. The British Bulldogs (Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith) (5/24/89) DK just physically looks like he shouldn't be in here with these big guys but the fans were into him going against them though. The fans were into everything in general here which was a plus and made the match seem better than what it was. The Dogs weren't at their best here although they still had a good match with the champs but not enough for a nomination.
September 17, 201015 yr comment_5455810 I am going to call you out on this one because if this wasn't the Dogs at their best, what was? What would have made the match better? IT wasn't like DK was whithered up like he was in the M-Pro 1996 show. He was actually remarkably agile and still took the big bump at the end.
September 17, 201015 yr comment_5455811 If we were going 1989 matches, I thought the Can-Ams match was better. You do this match 3 years earlier and I'm sure it would've been better like before DK got injured. But I wasn't the only one who thought that. This is what you wrote 2 years ago. Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith (PWF/International Tag Titles) (5/24/89) - Another average 1989 Bulldogs match. As expected, their work in the middle of the decade was so much better. You can tell DK is a shell of his former self. Jumbo pins Davey after he collides with DK in the Wrestlemania 2 spot. With the amount of high-quality tags that will be on this set, this doesn’t deserve consideration.
September 17, 201015 yr comment_5455813 And that's the good thing about rewatching matches you can change your previous opinions. I just watched the Can-Ams match not long before this match and that left a bigger imprint on my mind than this one did.
