John Tatum vs. Scott Casey (Fort Worth)

- Tatum is without Missy here. Really nice back and forth including a roll up sequence between the two. Later on, Casey goes for another sunset flip but Tatum escapes showing the people he has learned from his earlier mistakes. Good stuff. Tatum seems to lost his edge without Missy. He lets Casey off the ropes when they call for the break. Great sequence out of a test of strength and this is right behind Adams-Kabuki out of undiscovered feuds I love. I have a gut feeling that these Tatum matches will have people wildly split between those who love it and those who hate it. I could see tim Noel putting this in his Bottom 5. After Casey escapes a headlock, he goes for the bulldog but takes a nasty spill in the corner. Now Tatum is cheating it up, using the ropes to choke and stomp Casey. Sunshine gets on the apron while Casey is down and slaps the spit out of Tatum’s mouth. Casey gets his roll up but Tatum escapes. Casey goes batshit and beats the hell out of Tatum. Tatum throws Casey over the top for the DQ. Outside, Missy appears and Tatum holds Sunshine’s hair while Missy wallops Sunshine. Good stuff and a Definite Nomination form where I stand.

World Class TV Title: "Hollywood" John Tatum © vs. Cowboy Scott Casey (9/16/85)

This had some good back and forth action to start with both men jockeying for the advantage but neither coming out on top and this would go on for quite a while but Tatum would get in a cheapshot on a test of strength and then went to work. Casey fought back but when he tried for a bulldog, Tatum stopped moving and Casey went crotch first into the corner. Tatum then talked shit to Sunshine as he dropped Casey throat first on the top rope two times which prompted Sunshine to slap Tatum in the face. Tatum then grabbed the house mic and called out for Missy which gave Casey a chance to get an O'Connor Roll for a nearfall to kickstart his comeback. Missy Hyatt then ran out making her official debut and attacked Sunshine before Casey ran them off. This was fun stuff and moves forward.

The "beat the champ" style TV Title is a great gimmick, and one that Tatum was really custom made for. Tatum does a great carryjob here, making the typically mediocre Casey look like a world beater. That handshake spot was hilarious. Of course, we also get the big angle at the finish with Missy's proper debut that would make this an extra even if the body of the match wasn't anything special, but this was a strong match, and it should move forward.
