Interesting structure in that they maintained some suspense over which guys would end up in peril. Kawada was still selling his rib injury, and Jumbo and Yatsu unleashed hell on his midsection. But he tagged out before they could really render him useless. Then Tenryu beat the shit out of Yatsu, and it seemed like he might be the first one to break down but no, he tagged out to Jumbo. Just when it seemed the match would be a race between who would give out first between Kawada and Yatsu, Jumbo vs. Tenryu took center stage. The key thing was that the action and quality of wrestling stayed at a high level throughout. In the end, Kawada attempted a cross body only for Yatsu to catch him and turn it into a powerslam, Buzz Sawyer style. So it really was a Yatsu vs. Kawada story after all. This wasn't as exciting as their Feb. match, which I loved, but they delivered 20 minutes of high-end violence with constant suspense over how the match would go and a nifty finish. Solid nomination.

Genichiro Tenryu & Toshiaki Kawada vs Yoshiaki Yatsu & Jumbo Tsuruta, AJ TV 9/3/89 (TV20)

- Tenryu and Jumbo start off but wrestle to a draw. Kawada comes in and gets his ass kicked so he has to tag Tenryu in but Tenryu doesn’t fare too well early on with Yatsu giving Tenryu some nasty headbutts but Tenryu turns the tide and Yatsu becomes your Native in Peril. I have seen tons of Footloose matches but it is always amazing for me to see Kawada the high flyer. Fuck, Yatsu is getting his ass kicked. Just as I type that, Yatsu catches a Kawada leg and hits a capture suplex. Now Jumbo comes in and beats on Kawada again. Tenryu breaks it up and as Jumbo-Tneryu square off, Kawada catches him in the back of the head with another spinning kick. All good. These teams keep switching the tide and I am having a hard time keeping track as the momentum changes so much. Fuck, now Jumbo and Yatsu are working on Kawada’s ribs. Fuck, now Tenryu is in , throws Yatsu out and he throws Kawada into the guardrail just because he can. Tenryu tags Kawada back in but his ribs are still injured. Bad tag. Ah shit, Jumbo had Kawada pinned with a powerbomb but Tenryu saved. Jumbo is pissed and takes it out on Tenryu and the ref and Kawada. Thankfully, there is no DQ. Oh shit, Yatsu and Jumbo with the double knee and it wasn’t as cool as Double kick but still fucking painful looking. Kawada keeps getting his ass kicked. Tenryu keeps saving. Oh nice sequence… Jumbo goes for the the big knee, Kawada dodges so Jumbo elbows Tenryu so Kawada kicks Jumbo all in seamless fashion. This ending is fucking HUGE!!! I mean, fuck, a top rope sunset flip form Kawada. Fuck, Jumbo decapitates Kawada with a lariat. Oh shit… Tenryu powerbombs Jumbo so Yatsu saves and powerbombs Tenryu. Who knew??? Another Japanese Kick Combo. Another huge ending with Kawada diving on Jumbo who catches him in a powerslam and KILLS Kawada with the backdrop driver. Fuck, another SLAM DUNK, another Top 10 contender. This match was fucking INSANE!!!Christ, what a motherfucking roller coaster ride.

AJPW World Tag Titles: Jumbo Tsuruta & Yoshiaki Yatsu © vs. Toshiaki Kawada & Genichiro Tenryu (8/29/89)

Yeah this is a story of 4 guys who want to beat ass and they know what's coming but can't stop it. Kawada by this time has definitely graduated to being worthy of hanging with these guys and he does a damn good job of selling his ribs here. Jumbo & Tenryu have their usual war here with Yatsu being his usual great tag partner who especially agitates Tenryu. The stretch run was awesome leading to an awesome finish and this is a definite nomination.
