Steel Cage Match: "Modern Day Warrior" Kerry Von Erich vs. Jerry "The King" Lawler (11/25/88)

This is JIP but it doesn't look like we missed much. Lee Marshall is on commentary which sucks. They broke the cage door early so Frank Dusek has to hold it shut which is something. Lawler is awesome here being heel Lawler selling & bumping his ass off plus breaking out the Memphis chain to bust Kerry open. Lawler putting the chain that has Kerry's blood on it in his mouth to hide it from Lubich was pretty damn sick, I mean seriously Kerry Von Erich's blood is near the top of the list of people's blood I would want in my mouth. Lawler is awesome though doing this and it's driving the fans insane before Kerry would kick Lawler in the gut forcing him to spit the chain out and Kerry would use it to bash Lawler's head in. Lawler's selling here was top notch before going back to work on Kerry's cut using the cage. Kerry though would reverse a Lawler thrust though and bashed Lawler's head into the cage then immediately pinned him to win the match. This was technically good but it was so fun as you had Lawler being awesome and Kerry juicing like crazy. This goes on the block.

Steel Cage: Kerry Von Erich vs. Jerry Lawler 11/25/88 (McAdam A434 Disc 2)

- Great visual as Lawler plays to the camera and in the background Kerry winds up the discus and Lawler turns and gets nailed. Kerry controls early, rams Jerry into the fence and tries to apply the claw but it is too early in the match. Oh shit, Jerry is playing the chain game. Solid gold. Hiding, choking, punching. Another awesome camera moment as Lawler gets one over on the ref, smiles at the camera and gets nailed by Kerry who now has the chain. Kerry and Lawler is a great amtch up and Kerry gets the win on a roll up. The ending was kind of out of nowhere but I LOVED this match. Slam Dunk Nomination.

I guess I could question the point of Jerry hiding the chain from the ref if using it wasn't going to lead to a DQ - and I do - but he's so damn good at it that it would be criminal to let a petty issue like that get in the way. Also, if Jerry is as stone cold sober as his reputation suggests, having Kerry's blood in his mouth must have really wreaked havoc on his system the next morning. This isn't their strongest bout, but it's strong enough to move forward.
