Villano got like 70% of the offense against Disciple, so that might be worth having just because that is straaaaange. Who the hell is Johnny Attitude? I have never seen that guy.
August 29, 201015 yr Author comment_5455130 9/11/99 Prince Iaukea vs. Adrian Byrd* Van Hammer vs. Johnny Attitude Blitzkrieg vs. Kidman** 9/18/99 El Dandy vs. Bobby Walker Krusher Krushev vs. Al Green* Chris Adams/Johnny Swinger vs. Harlem Heat Regal/Taylor interview w/ Mean Gene** Iaukea is playing heel here and stiffing the hell out of Byrd, and really leaning into a couple dropkicks. Scott Hudson is fun and goofy here, saying stuff like "he really potatoed him with that kick" and "This may be turning into a shoot fight!!". Blitzkrieg match was quick and fun, with Blitz busting out a million spots in 4 minutes, Kidman gets completely dumped on his head by a nasty Frankensteiner, Blitz hits a great somersault senton, and it's all just totally fun. Dandy and Walker start out taking it TO THE MATTTT and it actually completely rules....but then as it goes on it's all Walker offense and he is just lousy. He looks completely lost the whole time. The Barry Darsow match is one of the things that makes old WCW syndie stuff so great. All the workers could pretty much book their own programs, and Darsow decided to book his story as "Harlem Heat hit me on the head with a tag title belt, and that transported me back into 1986, but I'm completely oblivious that it is not 1986." It's not a great match, but it's just fun seeing Darsow wearing the hammer and sickle singlet and yell about stupid Americans. The main event promo from Regal/Taylor is just insane and awesome, as Tayor mumbles about having an affair with Fergie and being completely sexually spent/knackered, while Regal is drunk but speaking fluidly (just completely bonkers though), offering to save opponents from a "brutal thrashing" and off the wall stuff like "When we're done beating you, you won't know if it's daylight, moonlight, or Israelite." You need this promo.
September 11, 201015 yr Author comment_5455558 3/13/99 Damian vs. Hak** Mike Enos vs. Booker T* 3/20/99 Barry Horowitz vs. Ernest Miller Kaz Hayashi vs. Raven**** Well this was some damn enjoyable WCW right here. Damian vs. Hak was awesome, probably the most Damian offense I've ever seen in WCW. He gets a couple dives (including a really nice somersault tope) and a moonsault, bunch of nasty looking singapore cane clotheslines, and a sick running knee to the face (using a chair to springboard off). Hak has some crazy bumps, including one where he dumps himself on his head geting thrown into the guard rail. One of the most fun 3 minute matches I've ever seen. Enos/Booker SHOULD have been awesome, as Enos was more than game, but Booker threw some of the sloppiest kicks around in this match. All sorts of goofy spin kicks and some of them just looked lame. Still, it was a long match and quite competitive. Enos looked real good. Horowitz/Cat was disappointing as it goes about 45 seconds, Barry was really making Cat's kicks look painful. Kaz/Raven is far and away the best match I have watched for this project so far. It is insanely great and totally out of left field. I was expecting a squash just like the previous match and I couldn't be more wrong. Raven gives Kaz EVERYthing in this match, and Kaz looks like one of the best in the world in 1999 (just checked, he was #32 on the DVD500 for that period, so maybe that notion isn't that crazy...). There is so much awesome stuff in the match, it is easily one of my favorite sub-5 minute matches EVER. Kaz takes some insane bumps, including a missed somersault senton to the floor. He hits TWO sentons off the top rope (with Raven under a chair!), they both take a beating from the other, and this is just too awesome. For a guy who is a total joke right now, Raven was pretty damn good in '99. This match NEEDS to be seen by everybody. *Will informed me right after I'd seen this and was gushing about it to him, that apparently it is on one of the earlier Schneider comps. So I'm like 10 years late to this party. But better late than never!
October 24, 201015 yr Author comment_5457623 2/27/99 Damian vs. Norman Smiley** Dave Burkhead vs. Jerry Flynn* Bobby Eaton vs. Brian Adams 3/6/99 Scott Armstrong vs. Kidman* This was not a bad couple episodes, but the wrestling was pretty sparse. Longest match was 4 minutes long and the 2nd episode...really? ONE match? In an hour? Damian/Smiley was awesome but only 3 1/2 minutes. Damian got a lot of offense, big tope, some stiff kicks, and holy lord the Big Wiggle was ridiculously over. A black man, in the south, simulating anal sex with another man, was by FAR the most over thing on this episode. Men were jumping up and screaming and fist pumping every time he even TEASED the Wiggle. Touches his chest intimately? Every dude in the building screaming. I don't think I could have predicted that. Burkhead/Flynn was fun because Burkhead usually doesn't have much offense, so it's nice seeing him against people with cool offense because he just kinda sits there and takes it. Flynn is a guy who has a bunch of cool kicks and he laces into Burkhead for the bulk of the match and shows off all the variations. He hits a nasty spin kick right under Dave's chin and it was great. Eaton/Adams was allllllmost there, but too much so-so Adams offense, and not enough Eaton. Eaton took some nice bumps and had a momentary comeback when Horace jumped onto the apron for interference and Eaton gave him the right hand, but Adams cut him off. Kidman/Armstrong was all about Scott being awesome, Kidman having some of the lightest possible offense, and Kidman taking three different awesome insane bumps. The bumps are what saved it, because every piece of offense looked like hot garbage. BUT the massive bump over the top to the floor was gorgeous. Scott was on fire here, trying to make Kidman's offense look credible (best take of the "can't powerbomb Kidman" reverse I've seen, really whipping his head into the mat) so this was very close to a full nomination.
January 30, 201114 yr Author comment_5463558 7/24 Johnny Swinger vs. Ciclope Barry Horowitz vs. Barbarian This was kind of a short, disappointing show. Both matches look pretty intriguing on paper, but neither got much time so both underperformed. Swinger/Ciclope was fun while it lasted though, as Ciclope got to control most of the match since there was no way in hell he was going over. So we got to see more Ciclope offense here than in pretty much any other WCW match of his. This win kinda rewards Swinger for all the beatings I've seen him take over the last couple months. The Horowitz match was a pretty short squash.
July 9, 201213 yr Author comment_5509679 3/27/99 Barry Horowitz vs. Johnny Swinger* La Parka vs. Chavo Guerrero Jr.* 4/3/99 Kendall Windham vs. Bobby Duncam Jr.* Kidman vs. Evan Karagias Horowitz/Swinger was really good (but short), with Barry being an absolute monster! Just totally stiffed Swinger up the whole time. This must have just been a requirement if you drew Swinger on a syndicated show. Park/Chavo was fun with both guys getting their moves in. Windham/Duncum could have been epic but didn't get much time. As it was it was just totally worthwhile and awesome while it lasted. None of you thought Kidman/Karagias would be good, and you were all right.
