NWA International Jr. Heavyweight Title: Chavo Guerrero © vs. Mighty Inoue (2/26/84)

Chavo was awesome on the mat to start this being very fluid in his transition from hold to hold with Inoue being in the right position for Chavo to work around him. Inoue would fight back though and the battle went to the floor where Chavo used a row of chairs on his left leg. This would be followed by some solid back and forth action with Chavo getting a figure-four after a German Suplex but when he tried to go for it a second time, Inoue would lock on an inside cradle to win the title. The All-Japan wrestlers would celebrate with Inoue after the match along with the fans chanting his name. This was a really good match and this moves forward.

Mighty Inoue vs. Chavo Guerrero, 2/26/84 (AJC 98)

- Damn, Chavo is so awesome. Almost every set, even if he isn’t in a great match, he is killing it on the mat. We saw it with Olympia on Mid South set. We saw it in New Japan. Initially, the matwork was more pretty than competitive. However, as the match goes on, Chavo starts focusing on the leg of Inoue and the match takes focus. I Love how Inoue folds his arms under his body to protect himself from the surfboard. Great stuff. Chavo gets vicious on the outside attacking the ankle with a chair. I was disappointed that Inoue took control back in the ring as soon as he did. I thought they could have exploited the leg work some more. Overall, I enjoyed the match even though some of the work seemed superfluous and I thought the wrong guy won but this was a solid nomination.

This one featured a lot of nifty mat wrestling, and I liked the way Chavo got more vicious as the match went on. I wasn't in love with the flash pin, but I guess it fit the narrative of the outgunned native pulling one out in front of his amped home crowd. This probably won't finish super-high on my ballot. The unique matwork, however, went a long way towards convincing me it belongs on the set. I support the nomination.
