Lynch Portland #11

Disc 1

Interview: Borne, Oliver & Assassin

Hennig & Scott McGhee vs. Oliver & Assassin - I liked 3 out of 4 guys in the match. Oliver was great selling and stooging but McGhee looked scared to be in there. He literally would get in and cling to the headlock for dear life, do a running corss spot and cling to the headlock again. Even when tagged in, he showed little fire. Hennig looked good as FIP. Late in the fall, McGhee looked better. Really basic offense but good enough. The faces take the 1st fall and this was decent but not great. - 2nd fall has a ref bump, interference and an awkward pin to end it. I think there are too many tags that smoke this. This can stay off. After the match, Matt Borne gets his ass BEAT with a bullrope, the blood is flowing and Rip and Assassin are PISSED! EXTRA

Scott McGhee vs. Ed Wiskowski - This is an arena match so this might be interesting. Early on, they are working out of the McGhee headlock and nothing of note is happening. Things get better with Wiskowski in control and working a hammerlock. I really like the struggle with McGhee trying a snapmare takeover only for Ed to hang on to that hammerlock. Seriously, McGhee trying everything in his arsenal to get that hammerlock broken. Nice stretch run with a flash pin. This is at least worth a look from everyone. Nomination.

Scott McGhee vs. The Assassin - Another arena match. This starts off right away with Assassin attacking the arm so no boring McGhee offense to start the match. Seriously, I can watch this all day with Assassin deciding which way he wants to destroy the arm & Shoulder into the ringpost? Check. Hammerlock bodyslam? Check. When the tides turn and McGhee is attacking Assassin, he does so with gusto. I really had him wrong in that tag. These two singles matches have been really fun with the Wiskowski match being smart and this one being nasty. Nomination. Curt Hennig vs. The Assassin - Another arena match. It looks like Assassin is bleeding through his yellow mask but he started the match that way so no blood flowing here. : ( Hennig is such a sympathetic babyface at this stage. I think I may have liked the McGhee match better surprisingly enough but this was interesting enough that you guys should take a look. I don't know if I would fight to keep it though.

Matt Borne + Rip Oliver - Rip is in the ring talking shit and Borne comes out with a chair and just destroys him. Damn biting the cut, ramming his head into the chair, just beating the dogshit out of him. Damn, the referee has to stay clear because Borne is punishing him too for getting too close. Oh, and Borne has sweet fucking punches. Borne does a promo after the massacre. This whole segment was AWESOME! Definite EXTRA.

Matt Borne vs. Rip Oliver - After the two segments leading to this match, if this doesn’t have gallons of blood flowing, I’ll be disappointed. OK, Borne is the first to get busted open. So far, so good. Oliver is just killing that cut. When Borne fights back, he rams Oliveer into the ring post and I have a feeling he will be swimming in blood soon too… yep there it goes. Borne is a sadistic fuck hitting that cut… with a sweet discus punch. Shit, inside the ring, Borne could have won the match but he wants to punish Rip so he keeps pulling him up and pounds on him some more. The match just kind of ends in a pull-apart brawl but these guys beat the shit out of each other for a good ten minutes. A bloody Rip does an interview after the match. Nomination.

Tony Borne does an interview and is attacked by Rip and the Assassin. Matt makes the save. Extra.

Buddy Rose vs. Ed Wiskowski - Great offense from Rose early on. When Ed takes over, he works on Buddy's mid-section, kicking him in that fat gut. Damn, Ed's punches are a gift from wrestling heaven. After ramming Buddy into the ring post, he attacks the head like a hyena attacking a dead caracass. Then the match cuts off. Well fuck.

Disc 2

Oliver, Assassin & Wiskowski vs. Rose, Borne & Hennig - 1st fall, extended face hine with all three faces cutting the ring off and abusing Oliver. Eventually, Hennig gets caught and becomes FIP. Hennig is such a great babyface. However, the actual moves aren't that exciting but the story is that the heels are taking out Hennig's leg and when he mounts a comeback, they can take out the leg. However, in a fitting end, Hennig gets taken out and submits to a Spinning toe Hold from the Assassin. Solid 1st fall. - Sweet, Hennig is frantically trying to make the tag in the 2nd fall but the heels punish and abuse that leg and Hennig is really great at selling, unlike his over-comical bumps and selling later on. Curt finally reverses a leglock from Oliver, gets to his corner where Oliver makes the mistake of getting too close and Borne and Rose take Oliver out with a RNR double dropkick and Hennig gets the fall!!! Nice end to that 2nd fall. - Coming back after the break, Oliver is still selling the jaw from the dropkick and bitching at the refer. That is some common sense shit. God, wrestlers should be so smart nowadays. Oh shit, with Buddy in he just attacks the fucking jaw. Sell it and I shall attack it. So great. Man, this ass kicking of Oliver is ten different ways of great. However, a blow to the gut gives the heels to the edge and they start abusing Rose's mid section and back. This is wrestling heaven for me. Nice end run with Borne and Oliver (Borne has some sweet punches) and a sick shot to the throat gives the heels the win. Easy freaking nomination.

Jules Strongbow vs. Mike Miller (Strap Match) - I hated jules on the TX set so not looking forward to this. Jules is bringing it early on with some nice strap shots and a sick boot to the face of Miller. Miller turns the tide taking out the leg and gets Jules on the ground. Initially I was digging this but Miller’s offense is dragging and Jules isn’t the most sympathetic babyface. Really cool spot with Miller outside and Jules pulls the strap and Miller goes running into the ringpost. Hey bonus points for Miller bleeding. This probably went on about 5 minutes too long but it is worth taking a look. Mild nomination.

Oliver, Assassin & Wiskowski vs. Rose, Piper & Sawyer - 1st fall was really exciting but one-sided. Assassin gets his ass kicked and Piper drops a DDT for the pin. Really quick but I have never seen Piper do a DDT. The heels do a post-fall interview. - The faces attack the arm of Assassin to start the 2nd fall but Rose accidentally hits Piper and they have a tense standoff, make up and go back to kicking Assassin's ass. Rose eventually plays FIP and the heels hook in front-face locks to keep Rose from making the pin. Could be more exciting but Rose gets the hot tag to Sawyer. He starts off as a ball of fire but a foreign object from Oliver puts him down for the count. - More punishment for Sawyer in the 3rd fall. Sawyer isn't as great of a baby face as Hennig but he is serviceable. When Piper comes in, the crowd comes alive but Piper has a bandaged hand so the heels exploit the weakness and work it over. Oh crap, when Rose makes the tag, he remembers working over the Assassin's arm from earlier and goes back to it including a flying butt drop n the arm from Sawyer. That is some match-building shit right there. With Sawyer in, the heels go back to work on his head and neck. A botched foreign object spot hurts the ending a bit but story wise it was poetic justice. Nomination. A huge brawl with Matt Borne breaks out after the match. Borne is bloodied and Rose & Borne do an interview after the match. Piper joins them and they face off with the heels. All of this has to go on.

Oliver, Assassin & Wiskowski vs. Rose, Sawyer & Pritchard - Damn, the butt drop on the arm gets me every time. Good face shine working on Oliver’s arm. The faces are masters at cutting the ring off and I am loving this. So smart, so logical, so simple… the way wrestling should be. When Assassin gets tagged in, he gets the same treatment and more smart work form the faces. Eventually Pritchard stays in too long and he gets his ass kicked. Ed’s body slams look devastating. They work on Pritchard's back but after a kick to Ed's face, he makes the hot tag. Sawyer eventually gets laid out with a powerslam from Ed and a flying headbutt from Assassin. Really hot 1st fall, following the Portland formula and a solid nom in and of itself. - 2nd fall, Sawyer selling the damaged shoulder to start the fall but the heels smell blood and work over the shoulder. I love how every time, Brett Wayne gets a desperation pin, Ed just reaches in and yanks him off. Also love how Assassin plans on hitting another headbutt, only to miss allowing for the hot tag to Brett Wayne? Shit, I think I was confusing Pritchard and Sawyer the whole time. Whatever, the faces even it up. - 3rd fall, Rose is getting his ass beat and he is bloodied up after a spill to the floor. Attacking the cut? Check. As a pier 6 breaks out, Oliver gets the foreign object, pop Rose in the face and gets the pin. Another easy nomination! A bloody Rose interview follows that will be included.

Buddy Rose + Rip Oliver - Rose is about to win a match when Oliver comes in with a chair and destroys him with a chair in a sick spot. Extra

Buddy Rose vs. Rip Oliver - Billy Jack is the referee. Oliver works a headlock and jaws with Billy Jack. It picks up when Buddy takes over on offense. Oliver goes back and focuses on the midsection which was injured from the chair attack. Continuity! Nice stretch with Buddy winning the 1st fall with a roll-up. - 2nd fall, Buddy works over the leg which he hinted at in the 1st fall. I love how the work is always simple (it is 1984) but they always mix it up and keep it interesting. Really cool ending with Rose turning the tide and nailing Oliver with a foreign object for the win. Not my favorite Rose match and the two straight falls can hurt it but the work was too good not to move it through.
