Posted March 31, 200818 yr comment_5430258 Jumbo Tsuruta & Genichiro Tenryu vs. Riki Choshu Yoshiaki Yatsu - International Tag Team Titles (1/28/86) - I Love this match. Choshu has the bandaged ribs so Tenryu and Jumbo smell blood and just kick the shit out of him. Seriously, Jumbo puts Choshu in the abdominal stretch and when Choshu is outside, Tenryu gets a chair and smashes him with it two different times during the match. I love how Choshu gets his damaged ribs taped up while Yatsu is being abused inside the ring. Choshu shows the fighting spirit and hits Jumbo with a dropkick but selling the damge he does to his ribs. Great, great stuff. After Choshu applies a sharpshooter to Jumbo, this allows Yatsu to come in and take control. He ends up busting Jumbo open along the way and I wish Yatsu would have exploited the cut more. However, after basically fighting a 1 on 2 match, Tenryu powerbombs Yatsu and gets the three. Man, this is Top Five material so far. I have never really watched this match in depth but there was some great stuff mixed in. I imagine it might be even better once I hit the TV seasons and get the full year’s worth of battles. April 25, 201015 yr comment_5449967 Not much to add here. It's a classic that holds up. Choshu created a great set-up with the taped ribs and the pre-match challenge to Jumbo. The crowd went nuts when he soldiered on after Jumbo and Tenryu targeted the ribs. Yatsu gave a fiery supporting performance as the guy who had to carry most of the action for his team. The crowd popped huge for some of his nearfalls. Jumbo and Tenryu made great bullies. The match just never slowed down inside or outside the ring. Top 10 for sure, maybe higher.
