Posted March 31, 200818 yr comment_5430269 Riki Choshu vs. Genichiro Tenryu (9/3/86) - Early on, Tenryu escapes from a head scissors and turns it into a nice bow and arrow. Later on, when Choshu tries to gain control, Tenryu nails him in the “bruised ribs” and takes over. Like clockwork, he works on the lariat arm as is required in every Choshu match. I actually don’t mind the strategy because it shows respect and puts the finisher over. Good thing because it plays a part in a really hot sequence where Tenryu gives Choshu an enziguiri to knock him off the top rope. As Choshu climbs on the apron, he dodges a Tenryu lariat and then the two men lariat each other in a double knockout spot. I LOVE how Tenryu just knees Choshu in the ribs anytime he gets the momentum. His kicks are just vicious. Choshu catches on and twice in the match, he grabs Tenryu’s leg and hooks on the Sharpshooter. The end stretch after Tenryu dives into the ringpost was pretty awesome with Tenryu busted open and getting nailed with a hard lariat. However, we get another shitty finsh similar to the Hansen match. However, this match was much better from bell to bell and is a strong nomination. (Samurai Retro Classics #10)
April 26, 201015 yr comment_5450000 This was just a war with very little down time. If I have to take a shitty ending, it might as well come from a guy refusing to stop punching someone in the face. I don't have much to add to Will's comments. It's an easy choice for the set.
September 27, 201015 yr comment_5456320 Genichiro Tenryu vs. Riki Choshu (9/3/86) Choshu has taped ribs again but he rips the tape off before they lockup to show his manliness. This of course would start out with a feeling out process until Choshu locked on the sasorigatame then after breaking it tried to climb up top but ate an enzuigiri for his trouble. This is where the war of attrition began as these two took it to each other featuring juice from Tenryu after being posted which fired up Choshu who pounded on Tenryu and referee Tiger Hattori who called for the bell. Choshu then beat on his own boys before going back to punch Tenryu until Yatsu broke it up. This was a solid hard hitting match and an easy nomination.
